kit boxes??

hey everyone, many other painters have told me they have gotten kit boxes at Home Depot for $20-25. I went on HomeDepot.com and could not find anything similar to what I had seen. Would any of you be willing to tell me the name brand of the box if you know what I'm talking about (or better yet post a link to it)? Just needs to be something that fits a pro-palette (the kind that fits 12 30gm cakes?)

Also, apparently Dawn Dewitt debuted a new product at the Las Vegas convention that is going on right now. It is a fully adjustable table workstation on wheels. So, your setup is fully set up for you inside the folding table...you just open it, adjust the legs if needed, put out your water container, brushes, and sponges and go. It stores all of your makeup already set up inside the table. It looks neat. Nora will have hers at LaFete. I am looking forward to seeing it close up. I like my current setup, but there is always room for improvement.

Yah right... that's all you need to put in it. That's what everyone says until you start collecting different paints, brushes, bling, etc. etc. etc.

My suggestion is to go with Shannon's suggestion right off the bat (haven't seen the new table yet)

I went from 'just needing a bag, to rolling cart, to rolling tool box, now to Fat Max... and it hasn't even been a year yet....gosh I hope I'm done! lol

I just got a FatMax and used it for the first time at the Olympics torch relay on Sunday. It worked great, but I had to put labels of my logo over 'FatMax'...it just hits too close to home Obviously named by a man!

OOOo now I LIKE That table idea...all my kit would fit in easily too, I tend to have only 2 pradise pro cases filled with my own assortment. AND the edge to keep little fingers out.

Hmmm.... may have to look into making my own!

I just found out the price of the tables (Gina N. of WowFacterStuff is going to be carrying them). This is the preliminary pricing structure for the tables:

It looks really neat, but the wood looks heavy to me. Hmmm.... Do-it-yourselfer-brain has engaged We'll see.

What I would like to know is how she keeps her paint in place. I would thing that when she closed it the paints would go every where . . .

For diy's maybe make the wood table deeper. You would want to make sure that you can put all your things into the table when its closed up. Notice her water well is higher than one side. I know my popsicle brush holder is even taller - not sure if it would fit inside when its closed up. Wouldn't want to have to carry an extra bag to put in taller objects.

Yes, all the small things would be sliding around I think. (And it looks heavy). I would like to see a picture just when the box is opened, before things have been put in positions and so.
But it is practical with a bag and table in one =)

Am I the only one wondering why there are so few sponges (I bring a lot more to events) and only one brush?

Well, I know that there are some sort of inserts that she puts over both sides to secure her paints when she's packing up. I don't know if they snap in, but by the looks of the fixtures around the inside perimeter of the box, I would suppose so.
I like the idea because I hate the setup/breakdown aspect of painting, but I just don't see myself using it enough to justify the cost. Some of the power painters, I could see, but not moi. I know there's costs for manufacturing and whatnot, but I think this table would be too cost prohibitive for the average painter...and I'm haven't even gotten up to being average yet.

I think if I did similar I would just shut my paint/ brush cases/ boxes up as I do now and bag em/ pad them with my towel as I do. I wouldn't want stuff fixed in as I often get asked to do bits in situ away from my table, and also mix and match bits of kit and would want it all easily removeable.

I use a small carry-on rolling suitcase to move stuff about in anyway so its not that dissimilar. This sort of table-roller would be the same but possibly sturdier -have been thru 2 Fat Max things (handles broke, wheels broke, clips holding sections together broke) and several shopping trolleys (wheels broke, stitching gave) and am on 2nd suitcase (stitching went, zip about to go on this one). I am acreful with them - OK n HK I have no car so is a lot of long walks & lugging them up stairs, but still!

So TBH a solid wood & strong metal thing with tough wheels would be a good option. Too many concrete staircases here and too many bumpy fields in the Uk is the problem I think..
Will have a go when i am back in the UK in June.

I don't want anything heavy or too big for me to carry up stairs, lift into the car, roll across fields. Wood is just TOO heavy a material.

And I really don't have a problem opening my own kit to set-up my table, and packing it up again. The client's provide the table for me anyway.

$35 for a new rolling toolbox every 5-10 years is a much better investment to my way of thinking.
