Hello from Michigan!
Hello,
I am Missa from Michigan. I am new to facepainting - ish. I have been doing it about a year on my kids and neighborhood kids. I have always been artistic doing painting, sewing, yarn crafts, etc. My DH of course thinks that I should do this for pay... (like I don't have a day job working 50 hours a week!) Well, I am volunteering to do face painting for donation at a meet and greet for our greyhound rescue organization at a local home and garden show. I am going to do a board for the faces that I can do in my sleep to help me stay focused and feel comfortable.
I do have the professional paints, several multi cakes and my DH got me a FatMax for my birthday. It is on Saturday. Wish me luck!

Re: Hello from Michigan!
Glad to hear you are getting more into it! And welcome to the forum!
You'll find face painting really is fulfilling, but agreed don't sell your self short! When one of us looks good we all look good, when one of us looks bad it effects us all in ripples, and when one of us does great work for free, at events.... it fuels the stigma that face painting and art isn't worth anything.
Practice on your kids, and neighbors till the cows come how for sure! I'm glad to hear you are at least charging by donation at an event.
Take pictures! Can't wait to see your stuff!

Re: Hello from Michigan!
Oh, absolutely, people will need to make a donation to Hounds of GRACE for me to do the facepainting. I figure this is a good way to see if I can handle the preasure, do it fast enough and step my toes in the water. I am donating my time and skills so they can rescue more greyhounds! I also used to decorate cakes and from day one I charged, because I knew I offered a superior product on taste and cakes that looked great. I would do the same for Face Painting. My time is worth it and I think artist and crafts people should be paid what they are worth.

Re: Hello from Michigan!
Excellent. Totally, and it's for a good cause, nicely done. Are they letting you keep a percentage to cover cost of supplies at all? I do that with charity events I do, they get the service free after cost of supplies and any donations go to the charity. I usually do a $50 kit fee, and this covers gas, and supplies nicely, that way I'M not the one paying to them to have it free lol. I donate my skill and my time, but they pay the supply. It's very fair.
Too many people under value the arts. I'm trying to change that.
Good to see another woman of business here, i would LOVE to see some of your cakes!
