Re: Butterflies
I found this image very helpful in doing better butterfly designs of my own.

Got me to tone down the details, and also i loved the line "Just because there's real estate doesn't mean you have to cover it."
My butterfly designs improved pretty fast.

Re: Butterflies
so you're starting a new thread about sucking at butterflies?
i consider butterflies the gold standard of being able to face paint. for some reason they seem harder than anything else. hence all the "i suck at butterflies" posts, lol. still working on my technique.
one of the first couple things i noticed about good butterfly designs is don't paint close to the nose (center of the face), and don't paint a big black bug body and antenna (no one wants a bug on their nose).
that tutorial does help.
forest-fairy, i actually love the rainbow colors and black flowers contrasted with white dots in your old butterfly on the left. do you do an "improved" version of it?

Re: Butterflies
I would give you so many internet hugs if you did that. Especially since I know they'd be good.

I'm glad you found them helpful. I've been talking with Tal about making a book of them.
