dumb & dumber - stained styrofoam head with wolfe black
i picked up a cheap styrofoam head at a local sewing/craft store, can't yet afford a real one. forgot hair spray to coat it.
tried a quick eye design, including wolfe black and forgot to clean it off, so it stayed on almost 24 hours.
surprise, surprise, the wolfe black won't come off. tried water, soap, 70% alcohol, scrubbing with sponge. any hope, or should i try spray painting it?
she needs to be skin tone any way, she's lily white. going to call her irene, rhymes with styrene (styrofoam is polystyrene). maybe lily for short, lol.

Careful with spray painting! In my adventures in cosplaying, I have found that most spray paints will melt and dissolve polystyrene...

Dear jlirie:
Irene is, after all, a practice head. She will wear her practice lines as a badge of honour. Headley LaMarr is my practice head, and has numerous overlapping faint marks. Isopropyl Alcohol and Acetone never truly get the marks off. I love her in spite of the scars of my doodling.
Happy Painting!

true. got started practicing a design for the frozen monthly challenge on "irene" the foam head. not a good development. the texture is hard to cover with paint. we'll see how it goes.

Re: dumb & dumber - stained styrofoam head with wolfe black
I prefer to paint on craft foam, if a human is not available, or they are running away from me because they can hear the sound of my kit opening up.
The craft foam is better to paint upon than Headley LaMarr. My own arms and legs are better than the craft foam... except my skin is getting more wrinkly as I get older.

Re: dumb & dumber - stained styrofoam head with wolfe black
the sound of your kit opening, too funny
funny you mention craft foam, i got some large sheets of foam, cut them up and practiced on one before i got "irene". i agree the texture is better.
i like my own arm better, too, but i noticed if i paint eye or face designs on my arm, kids think they are arm designs :/ so i plan on painting those kinds of designs on the foam or "irene", so people don't get confused.
i got "irene" mainly to be more lifelike to try the monthly challenge. she made her debut today. i need a real practice head

Re: dumb & dumber - stained styrofoam head with wolfe black
The helpful Shannon Fennell directed me to Wimexbeauty.com I bought that practice head, with an extra face skin to put over the head.
I have replaced my family with two practice heads.

Re: dumb & dumber - stained styrofoam head with wolfe black
Fessy, you sure you have that link correct?? :/
I like the heads with the 'extra face' skin, but they are such a pain to clean if you forget to hairspray first. They're all floppy and messy. I attach mine to the dummy head with rubber bands across the forhead and neck and it makes it much easier to clean.

Re: dumb & dumber - stained styrofoam head with wolfe black
does the face skin hold it's shape enough to use alone, without putting it on the head? or maybe i could put it on "irene". i'm cheap when it comes to non-paint accessories.

Re: dumb & dumber - stained styrofoam head with wolfe black
the face paint skin does not hold it's shape when it is off the head form.
Although...
you can wear it,
for fun,
if you don't want to see,
or breathe.

Dear fessy pants,
I hope you continue to give Headley a good home. I'd hate to see her end up on some reality tv show for no-longer-needed face painting accouterments...
And Dear All,
If you visit the kitchen section of your local Dollar Tree (might be US only - not sure) you can pick up some sheets of clear vinyl disposable chopping boards material that is better than any practice head out there for practicing on. Your brush doesn't slip because it's a flat surface, it doesn't stain - and it can be practiced on over and over and over again.

Dear Miss Ronnie:
I prop our Headley up at the dinner table.
I tuck her in bed (it freaks out the hubster).
Your Headley is much loved.
I need her birth certificate to get her Social Insurance Number.
