Staple Butterfly Masks
How do you go about changing the colors with these? Seasonal? Apparel? Per Request? Also, do you change the linework totally or just variate it slightly?
Not really sure why I can't figure this out at 6 in the a.m. I probably need to get my caffeine drip going. Still I would like to hear the suggestions.

Re: Staple Butterfly Masks
I have a few ways.
If they ask for a color, i do that color with maybe another color too if i feel so inclined.
If they don't specify a color, i either ask, or just pick something i think would look good (this works better and doesn't wear out my pink as much lol). If i can, I like to take inspiration from what they are wearing.
As for line work and such, i change it up as often as i can. Constantly trying new things.

Re: Staple Butterfly Masks
I personally ask them what colors (typically 2) they would like for their butterfly and typically do my line work with black and some white highlights and starbursts, etc.
My butterfly designs vary as I don't have a particular go-to design (although I plan to have several to speed things up). That being said, it's not a bad idea to have a go-to design that you can very slightly between child (ie, one main base design with several easy alterations/additions to line work combined with individualized color combos help each face stand out from the rest).

i agree with both having some go-to designs, and with changing them up.
after initially practicing various other people's designs, i am honing in on what i really like and developing my own take on popular designs, maybe a couple different styles that can be tweaked with different colors and details.

Re: Staple Butterfly Masks
Try reversing your usual color schemes, you might find something different. The picture below is from when I was practicing (notice word practice, so please forgive my linework)using maroon for my line work instead of black. On a whim I tried reversing my color scheme and ended up with a frosted fairy instead.
I have a really hard time with linework, so I'm experimenting with sponges and onestroke butterflies. Lisa Joy Young has a great video for those:
