Marketing success story! Empty Marketing success story!

Post by ModestArtists Thu Jun 26, 2014 6:53 pm

I'm preparing myself for the Pride Parade this sunday to hopefully do a lot of advertising as well as earn money painting faces in the process, yesterday I booked my first gig for August for a birthday party, and I got two stores in one of the upper-middle class neighborhoods in NYC to distribute my Business cards for free including a party store!! I'm trying to find new and creative ways to catch people's attention and make myself stand out amongst other NYC face painters.

One of my ideas was to go extra early to the parade and use colorful chalk signs and arrows to direct people to my Face Painting booth. Hopefully on 14th st people will notice the art work more easily and it wont get too crowded.

I also invested in the Paypal Card reader because I know many people don't use cash anymore and I hope that it'll make my business seem more professional. My only issue is I'm doing all this without a license because I can't afford one yet! I'm hoping the money I make this weekend will be enough to purchase my license and that the cops don't tell me to leave or worse give me a citation. People are constantly selling things in NY behind the scenes but my table is going to be big (I wanted a small table but it just wasn't happening the only rental one I found was 6ft) and I am making my display today with all the face I've done/can do. Trying to recruit my older brother to be in charge of the money, ticket distribution, as well as lifting heavy items.

Be sure to only post photos of your own art.
I don't mean your own design. It's okay to use designs you see everywhere, just paint it yourself, photograph that, and post your own photos.
Good luck!

Thanks rthling! I've been scouring the posts of this forum and seeing how many people have stolen art that you guys have found...last thing I want is to be hunted down by anyone on here, y'all are like the Face paint bounty hunters! (in a good way)

I'm going to be going to parks today so I can do some painting (for cheap) in order to get some more photos. I had to write out a permission form...do you have any experience with liability forms? Is there anything specific it has to say?

here is my form below:

That's more than suitable. Mine isn't nearly as detailed. I think I "borrowed" it from Shannon Fennell long, long ago...
And yes, we are the fp popo. We are the "John Wayne"s of the community. Rough, tough, and don't take crap off nobody! (wait. that's cheap toilet paper. never mind...)
Here's what mine says.
I, ______________________________, hereby give my permission to Fancy Faces by Diane, the artist and/or owner of the photographs or other images of me or of _________________________, my minor child, to use them for her portfolio, marketing, advertising, promotion, publication, competition, or contest entries and/or in any other manner as she requires in any format or media as she chooses.

The identity of the model will not be released or published in any manner.

Muuuch simpler format,
i had no idea what to really put on mine so just listed off the things that perhaps the most anal parents would be concerned about. Do you give them copies of the signed document?

Flying with out a busking licence is risky business. I hear they can also confiscate your stuff! I wouldn't go too big if you don't have a licence, do what is called a 'stop and drop' set up if anything.

And yes we are the face painting bounty hunters of stolen art! lol
HUGE put peve of mine.

They can't take your stuff in NYC if you're selling art, only if you sell manufactured goods.
