Newbie from Florida
Hello All, my name is PJ and I am new to this forum and to face painting. I usually do sfx makeup and horror/halloween stuff, but earlier this month I was asked to do regular face painting at a festival that my church was hosting. It went pretty well overall, but I was seriously unprepared and unorganized. I joined this forum because I want to do more face painting in the future and would like to learn as much as I can about the different methods and paints. Any suggestions or help that you can give me would be awesome, as well as greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Newbie from Florida
Hello and welcome. The best advice I can give is practice, practice and practice (plus find inspiration in others work)

Hi PJ-
Welcome to the forum!! There is a lot of great info to cull through here as well as many amazingly talented and helpful people. I want to improve my fx skills and abilities, although I have to say my favorite part of face and body painting is the artistic creative part - conception, creation, transformation!!
Where in FL are you? What's in your kit so far??

Re: Newbie from Florida
I am in SW Florida, in the Ft. Myers/Naples area. So far I just have a cheap starter kit that I bought in a local costume shop, some brushes, and some sponges. I will be purchasing much nicer supplies soon, as I have another church gig coming up next month. My only problem is that I have a very limited budget. What brands and items do you recommend?
Re: Newbie from Florida
PJ- We just had another thread on the same topic....depends on your budget. You may want to start with the mini pallettes to try the different brands as you learn - that is what many of us did. The most common and easy to obtain to us are Snazaroo, Paradise, Wolfe FX or Diamond FX, Kryolan. All are good and reputable but each have different properties which you can read on other paint brand threads. Also check out the swap thread for a deal - or Metina's forum shoppe for free shipping great supplies.
Perhaps the church can give you a small budget- since your're probably giving your services for free- to buy child and people safe professional paint.
Take care!! Have fun!!!

Re: Newbie from Florida
welcome PJ! the best advice I can give is to network with other face painters in your area who would be willing to train you and teach you designs. Also look for face painting jams in your area or a guild you can join
