What to wear, what to wear?!
I have some gigs coming up soon, and I was wondering how I should dress? I am 31 years old and have never done this professionally before. Shoukd I dress fun and colorful, or modest and neutral?

Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
I think it's totally up to you. I've been asked by parents if I "dress up" and I tell them no. If I dressed up in a costume that means I would have to be in "character" and I'm just not an actress or a pretty princess. lol
I just show up as "myself" Of course I still try to look nice and approachable to children and parents alike.

Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
I just wear dark jeans and a black t-shirt that says Face Painter with close-toed black flats.
I usually wear bright bracelets and a black cap.
Many people dress up bright and cheery, some wear colorful wigs, etc. Just do what you feel comfortable with. I would imagine that a bright get-up would be more memorable.

I have a black, red and pink Silly Farm shirts that said "Face Painter" in crystals, and I love them, for gigs that are quite elegant and clubs I use the black one with black pants, for the parties at parks I wear the color ones with jeans and my converse and I love them, I don't need to introduce myself when I get to the gig they already know who I am and send me to my place.
Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
yes - and the material is great, they wash well and are very comfortable!
Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
Thanks so much! I love the face painter aprons. I think I might wear one with black pants, black shoes or converse, and a solid colored shirt - and maybe a fun wig ^_^ And, of course, with my face painted.

Anything you like as long as it looks tidy. I love to wear a cutesy apron over pants and a shirt or just a summery dress. I have a long blue dress with moons and splatter that works perfectly for the name I chose.
Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
I used to wear colorful clothes (not costumes) but now I wear all black cause I got too many little dots of face paint on me that don't come out!!! Black doesn't show it. Or I wear a colorful print where specks don't matter
Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
I am struggling with the same thing. I got a white cheap apron and am loving the splash look it is getting. I am going to hand paint face painter on it. Might even add splash. lol I had colored my hair with chalk and a big bow but I just don't like that. I am thinking I am going to go with a more sophisticated look with something cute around my eyes.

Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
I realize this is a little late, but I've been doing research on this and pink/white/light blue is the best colors that psychologically make you seem more approachable. Generally pink is women, blue for males thing. If you want draw attention, Red is the color. Black is professional and makes people take you more seriously. I've found an apron, even a half one is pretty favorable as it looks great and keeps you clean. A black one is highly professional and clean/chic/modern. Colors are seen as less formal, fun, more high energy, and come in cute styles. But always always wear your profession on you personally. It makes people feel confident that you are confident in what you are selling. Always consider comfort, and event type. Is a wig going to get too hot in 90 degree weather? Am I going to be fixing my shirt all day just because it's cute? Find what works and stick with it because if you have repeat customers you'd get them back quicker if they can recognize you. Some wear signature hats, or wigs, or costumes, or bows, or aprons to do this as well. Just as long as you don't mind getting it dirty or it doesn't impede your work then you should be fine. Sorry a bit long, but I hope this helps anyone who reads this

Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
Professional, clean and approachable. I generally favor black clothing, a custom half/waist apron (mine go with the seasons/holidays/themes, always changing), and I paint something fairly elaborate on myself. Hair secured back off the face (usually a fresh flower in my hair, just because), comfy shoes (I wore cute leather flats once this year, and broke some blood vessels in my feet standing on concrete for 10-12 hours, lesson learned). Short nails, clear coated, to keep hands from looking grungy. I have singing/stage experience, but I've not yet considered venturing into character appearances, simply because the idea of singing and being princess-whoever while painting seems like too many things to manage at once.
Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
Good idea on the nails being short and clear coated, won't have to worry about the color chipping and looking grungy. I've also heard a tip where before you face paint to clear coat beyond your nail and go up to the cuticle and put extra in the wells on the side of your nails. Then you take a bar of soap, or wax, and you scrape some of it under your nails to avoid it being stained with the paint. It keeps fresh looking hands and all you have to do is just wipe the paint off. Clean hands are professional hands and almost as import as a bright smile and fresh breath

Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
Many moons ago when I did my first go around with face painting, I wore a pair of white overalls that I splattered brightly colored paint all over (my dad used to airbrush t-shirts and auto tags). I had a painters cap too that we did the same way. On this go around, it will probably be black pants/shirt with an airbrushed apron. Loose cotton preferably.... It's hot in FL!

Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
I love bright colors... it's me, it's my personality... Lately I have been wearing black leggings and a black stretchy dress with a big huge floaty chiffon floral "jacket" and matching cyberlox. Kids LOVE the cyberlox and I love all the color.
Re: What to wear, what to wear?!
I wear a neon green t shirt, and black apron. I paint my face with something small by the eye, and wear a matching neon boa material hair piece and spray my hair with sparkles. I also wear a name tag, that reads my name and says artist.
I have made the green color my business color, and I also add in the zebra print, so everything matches.
