consultation worksheets
Hello All,
I am need of a bit of assistance. I searched the forum to no avail so maybe someone can help. I have been painting corporate events for about two years now. I have my first belly painting booked for August. My question is does anyone use a consultation form to help the client communicate what they would like or important information? I thought of the basic questions like theme, colors, gender of baby, skin sensitivities, and area to be painted. Is there anything specifically you ask or can think to add. I am sure I am missing alot. Thank you in advance, Nina

Dear blackwelder6462:
I will never give a future potential client my designs again.
In 2006, another body painter contacted me and asked if I could help him draw up some designs for a painted lingerie shoot. We worked for 20 hours. He gave copies of our drawings to the client. The client turned around and said 'thank you for the drawings' and 'you are too expensive. About six months later, he happened to work with a model who had been hired for that shoot. The model told him that the painter used the drawings signed by us. The painter was a $35 an hour painter. The model said the body paint was amateur and unusable.
If we had not submitted the drawings, the client couldn't have taken them to someone else. I will do the drawings. I will show the drawings in person. I will only submit them to the client once I receive a 50% retainer on the job.
When it comes to Prenatal Painting...
I need to actually speak to the Mother To Be.
I love how you have organized your intake form. I just don't feel that most people love to fill out forms. I may have a detailed form like this beside ME...so I ask all the appropriate questions.
I know you asked "what should I ask on my form", and I didn't answer you properly. I love your questions. I think they should be for YOU to fill out while speaking to the client.

Re: consultation worksheets
I agree - it should be a cheat-sheet for you, but way too formal for what you’re actually doing. I also think offering three designs is going way above and beyond. I’ve only done a few, but the moms seemed to want me to kinda make the decisions - they trusted me as the artist to come up with a design with the information I had gathered. Wardrobe requests? I’m not sure why they’d have that option. I would just tell them to wear loose comfortable clothing, maybe yoga pants and a sports bra. As far as embellishments - I don’t think the average person would know what liquid bling is or how other embellishments could be used in the design. Belly painting is such a cool, layed-back experience, I wouldn’t make it too business-like.
