Best Brushes

Can anyone please let me know based on experience what are the best round brushes for line work and tear drops.

Also recommendation for the other types of brushes.

What sizes do you use the most and could not do without.

I am new to this only had my paints for a week.

If you go into your Profile, above, and type in your general location, it will be easier to give you local specific advice. If I tell you that Curry's is having a brush sale, that would mean nothing to you, unless you are from Canada.
Having said that... I like the yellow handled rounds in sizes 2 up to 6. I also love the Loew & Cornelle 7000C series. They are available for a competitive price from the FacePaintForumShop (the colourful rectangle in the column header above).

Yes welcome-- I agree with Fess, I like the L&C she recommends, as I get them with acrylic handles & they never peel...

I'm a big fan of the Loew Cornell yellow handle brushes like Anniel and Fesspenter. I also like the Mark Reid rounds for line work and doing tribal. I use the fine tipped brushes that are used for nail painting when painting eyes on unicorns and dolphins etc.

Thanks ladies - I will get myself some LC brushes soon

Also...we need our Australian face painters to jump in here and suggest places close to you where you may purchase those brushes!!

What sizes do you recommend is the best for my kit. I want to get 1 for white, one for black and one for colours. In each size, So I only need to wash the colour one.

I am NOT a good person to take a recommendation for ONE brush for black, ONE for white, and ONE for other colours. I help run a face painting program at SickKids Hospital. I was trained by Infectious Disease Control on how to face paint in a hospital setting. I still use those guidelines on the job. I carry close to 100 brushes in my regular set up. I use one sponge per child, and every brush gets sanitized between children. When I buy new brushes...I immediately clear-coat the area around the ferrule and haft with clear nail polish (Thank you Shannon Fennell for this wise piece of advice). Then...after it dries, I put either black or white polka-dots on it to identify that brush to be used for those colours. For white colour only, I have about 10 or 11 round brushes in a variety of sizes (with the sizes 3, 4, 5 in the yellow handled brushes being my favourites). I have the same set up for the black colour. I have about 25 rounds in sizes 4-8 for all the other colours. I have about 15 flats in varying sizes for my one strokes. The rest are a few "whisper" brushes for fur techniques, filberts, and 7 petal brushes.

You asked "Which ONE?" I cannot give you the right answer...only my answer, which does not help you at all.

I TOTALLY needed that brush tip! Now I know how to keep my brush colors straight... being from Alberta I have to have a lot of brushes so that I can clean them and let the alcohol dry between kids. Simply brillant.

My favorate brushes are LaCornelle and Protege for flat.

I order some yellow handle L&C and also some 7000c series to try. Thanks for the advise. They should arrive this week.

Where is the best place to purchase brushes in Australia?

Lowe Cornell Soft Grip rounds, the #4 is one of my work horses. And the Gold Grip set for sure, again the #4 ends up being my favorite.
