One wise piece of advice that Psalmbook gave to me was to purchase a director's chair that was 'one piece' instead of two pieces, so little ones will not fall through the back of the chair.
Psalmbook was right.
I put a pillow on the chair to push children closer to me when painting. If I had a two piece chair back, the pillow would fall through.

I see what your saying Lisa. Thank you for your advice.
I looked at the earth chair and I think I might be able to make a similar fitted panel to go between the back and the seat which would allow for there to be a cushion put in place.
Thank you again...  Smile

I use a an ez-up chair kind of similar to this. I stretch a body pillow case with shoelaces tied on the front corners to secure it to the front legs. Has worked great for years. (& it comes in a carry bag I toss on my shoulder.)

Thanks Anniel.
Unfortunately I don't think we can get that chair here in Australia. But that's a great idea with the pillow case.

Heya Flourishing Faces Smile

I have that exact chair, and I hate it LOL Here's my unbiased thoughts..................
CONS
1 - the gap at the back is HUGE!! I bought a pillow thing from Big W which helps a bit, but if the kids lean back against it at all, it will still fall through.
2 - Folded, it measures 120 cm in length, and doesn't fit across the back of my car.
3 - The fabric is nice, but stretches in the front making the seat uncomfortable for all but the teeniest of kiddies because the metal legs of the chair dig in to the back of their legs.
4 - It is not terribly stable and someone must be hanging on to it if a child is climbing up (a couple of times kiddies have been too fast and nearly gone over with the chair before I grabbed it)
PROS
1 - It is the perfect height for me Smile
2 - it is lightweight, and easy to fold up
3 - the arms are the perfect place for hanging my new Funtopia sponge bags Very Happy
In short, I'm still on the hunt for the perfect chair Sad

Anyone use this Directors Chair? Empty Step ladder instead of Directors Chairs

Post by LillyW Tue May 27, 2014 3:05 pm

I find my back hurts LIFTING the kids up all the time.  Plus, I then need a pillow to keep them learning forward more.

I now use a step ladder. The bar on the back stops them from leaning back, and they crawl right up on their own.

This one is my BIG one, no wheels.  The steps are huge, and they can sit on the middle step, while I sit, when my legs get tired,

Yes, I am tall, you can see me here working on an adult, nice and TALL

The one above is a bit heavier than a directors chair.  So, a bit more  weight if I have to carry it very far.

I more often use this smaller one that is also a DOLLY!!  Children and adults fit on it fine. Nice to have the wheels and a way to haul stuff.

Here is a better photo of it ready to be a dolly.  I see it is on sale right now too, hmmmm, maybe I need another one!!

This is the chair that I use.

Pier 1 Director's Bar Stool

I have not had anyone fall through, but I am sure that I could make a panel that hooks to the back quite easily.

It is lightweight and folds easily.  I do need to build a little step so that kids can get up on their own, but it is the perfect height for me.

Just did 3 days of gigs with my step ladder. Plus two days of teaching and jam. So glad I don't use my director's chair anymore!  My back feels so much better.

Still not sure if I like the smaller one with wheels, or the bigger one. This last weekend was the NO wheels, bigger one, shown here. Next set of gigs I will try to wheeled one again.

I purchased this three years ago and its been great for me. Lightweight and with the side table gives kids a place to set a drink or bag. Plus everything easily wipes clean.  Surprised
