Oh dear.... soooo hot tomorrow! :(
I'm off to face paint at our town's Christmas event tomorrow... 5 hours... and it's going to be 38 degrees (100F)... I'll be outside unfortunately! I've never painted in the intense heat before (plus I think it's going to be a really muggy heat as there's a change rolling in later in the day) and am really worried about my paints going soggy.. they're already soggy in my house here with our evaporative cooler on! And of course, worried that I won't be able to hold up for all that time in the heat.. not as young as I used to be... I have bottles of water ready in the freezer to take with me... Wish me luck!!!

Good luck!
If you were here, you'd be more worried about your water freezing!

If you have electricity available, can you take an oscillating fan? I know it's miserable in trying to paint in the heat. Take plenty of water and keep misting yourself with the spraybottle!!!

omg it is sooooooooooooooo cold that I can't even relate.
do you use paradise?
I just remember my paradise prisma cakes were my only solid cakes after I left my paints in the car all day in the summer.
might be a better brand to try for the extreme heat.

Re: Oh dear.... soooo hot tomorrow! :(
When I have been painting in the heat of summer...
I set a timer (a duck quack) every half hour to remind us all to drink water.
I use anti-perspirant under and between my breastages. If this is too much information... just don't read the previous sentence.
I have a neckerchief that I soak in cold water for 10 minutes, and I wrap it around my neck. It has absorbant beads inside that hold the water for a cool sensation as it evaporates. I found it in a store for construction worker wear (steel toed boots, work gloves, pants, overalls, etc.).
I keep several black hand towels at hand. I dip my brush in water, and then wipe most of it out to avoid, or at least mitigate, the excess water that accumulates.
I have a lunch box cooler "sheet" that is about 9" x 12" that I place under my paints. I keep white and black in lidded in a cooler and swap it out every two hours or so.
There is a genius on this Forum who created a "Swamp Cooler". If you have access to electricity, this would probably create an amazing cool breeze.
If you stop sweating....DRINK WATER!!!
xoxo
Happy Hot Painting,
while I go and shovel the snow off our sidewalk again.

I'm thinking it was Diane (rthling) who posted the homemade swamp cooler apparatus... ?
Re: Oh dear.... soooo hot tomorrow! :(
I second that emotion, Shannon.
When you're cold you can keep adding layers and bundle up 'til you're snug as a bug...
But when you're hot, you can strip all the way down to your nakedness and still be hot.... and then you're just plain embar-assed, too.

Ah, thanks so much for the tips girls!!! (And Lisa.. I wish I had a decent set of breastages to require anti-perspirant...mine are practically non-existant!! haha!)
I had a super weekend!!! Thankfully, the organisers had reconsidered when I arrived, and had decided to put me inside the air-conditioned hall right next to Father Christmas... phew!!! Considering it was 40C, I was soooo relieved!! But I'd gone prepared.. I had a cooler full to the brim with frozen drinks, ice blocks and a wet hand towel... Shared them around to my neighbouring stall owners who were still feeling the heat...
Anyway, I painted so many happy little faces that day!! It was an absolute delight!!!! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Christmas tree decorations were a big hit and full face Rudolph and cheek Rudolph were close runners up... Ice Princesses and holly and snowmen and santa hats.. the list went on and on and I had such a terrific time!!!
Then my lovely son decided to pay a visit... turned up on his motorbike... When it was all over, he helped me carry all my stuff back to the car (I'd mislaid my table carry bag, and also a wheel had fallen off my trolley, so he was a big help to me! Then he shouted me dinner at our local pub! So nice to down a few diet cokes I can tell you!!!
Had a birthday party this morning and lots more happy customers... I really feel like a proper face painter now!! My dining room table is currently taken over by sheets of paper towel covered in brushes, sponges, stencils, daubers and air drying paints!! Thanks again ever so much girls for all your help!!!

So glad it turned out to be a cool experience for you. I too prefer the coolness to the heat, but I am a Canadian girl too
