Option for lining kits Empty Option for lining kits

Post by Jobena1 Wed Dec 18, 2013 5:20 pm

I just purchased some Velcro that is sold in sheets...its very expensive but I did it anyway..Will post pics when it gets here .I bought a small wooden art kit at Ac Moore gutted it and will be lining the top trays with the soft side of the Velcro. I bought some small squares (precut cause I am lazy and hate cutting little squares) of just the hook side to stick to bottom of small containers (mostly FAB paints and a some white and black that were repotted into the small round containers left over **note I am not a fan of repotting anything ..lol) I am excited to have a quickie grab and go kit for Birthday Party and small gigs...I am equipping it with 5 brushes only...white glitter..small container of gems, gold/silver liquid bling some of them HAS stencils or tap stencils, also I am only taking a few rainbow cakes....I seem to use the same ones over and over so I narrowed it down. my water bottle/ brush bath/sponges with be in my carry bag with apt book and cards...I am simplifying in 2014.

I spray painted the inside of my to-go kit black as well. I only use the square velcro, but I can see why you would want to use the whole sheet velcro. My only concern would be keeping the soft velcro clean. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I am thinking it cant be much worse than than keeping the palette inserts clean. I am just excited to have a quick kit I hate dragging a whole set up for a 10 kid party..

I would recommend spraying a varnish/finish on any of the wood that you aren't using velcro on. Otherwise you won't be able to clean off make-up after gigs.

I stained this wood black and then used Velcro which is duct tape to me and fixes all things. I use this set up most often as it works well for large events and is portable and self contained enough for small parties. When I only need a few colors I can easily pop out what I need and put into a laptop case also fitted wit Velcro. I repot most of my paints to square containers with the exception of B&W to save on space. I love it because the stain is water proof, I can remove all paints, powders and glitter vacuum wipe off and it looks like new.

Updated info on the Velcro sheets...awful didn't stick that well and I ripped them back out. ..Also got rid of the wooden kit...too heavy after loading it....I did get an aluminum case from Storehouse 18x13x6....I used it today!!  IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!   I did a first timer quick video....the inserts are super sturdy and move around.  It took me a few minutes to pop out my palette..fill my water and grab a few brushes..I wish that brush holder bent in half and I could make a brush stand.  Someone suggested to use a VHS tape holder for a few rainbow cakes and arty cakes.  I have to say this is the lightest case I ever had!!!
LInk to video below  ( I hope that worked)

I made a large carry-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink kit in an aluminum gun case - I love it for big fairs, festivals and markets, but for small bday parties it can be a bit overkill. Was looking into smaller versions that wouldn't be so labor intensive to set up inside with compartments and brush holders, and saw your thread and started happy dancing  cheers I did a quick search to find it inexpensively, and found it at good ol' Harbor Freight for a mere $23.99. This is a great deal for a simple lightweight case for small event, already set up inside with organization and brush holders. Well done and thanks for the in-depth setup video! Smile Here's a link to the case I found: http://www.harborfreight.com/18-x-13-x-6-aluminum-case-69315.html#.Uy8WF4UWaHs

You can also go to retailmenot.com and find the 20% off coupon to save you about $4.90, which justifies the s/h. Smile
