More Holiday than Face Painting related- But thought I would share!

I originally wrote this about 25 years ago after I went to the mall just before Halloween and it was already decorated for the Winter Holidays. It still rings true.... Yes- there are made up words.... Think Dr Suess.

Some Time Before WHEN?

'Twas quite some time before Christmas and all 'cross the land
One would assume 'The Day' was at hand.
The store fronts were trimmed and tinseled and gilded,
In the mall, Santa's castle was already "builded."
The stores were all stocked, the ads were all running
To be CERTAIN St. Nick soon would be coming.
'No interest financing' on gifts this year-
'Buy now, pay later' is all that we hear.
The greeting card stores were quite fully stocked
With nativities and joke cards both separate and boxed.
The U.S.P.S. warns to "ship really soon.
After all, we need it by 9 to loose it by Noon."
The papers hail word of sales near and far
A toaster for mommy, for dad a new CAR!
The kiddies all craved new trinkets galore
which blip, bing and beep as they conquer ZOR!
As I march through the mall, with The Season I'm bombarded
It's only OCTOBER and it has already started.
Across the world new freedoms we see
The Berlin wall's a memory... should we buy a fake tree?
Peace unto all, the task isn't hard
Unless you lack the appropriate credit card.
This satirical poem was not meant to depress
I'd apologize more, but I hate to digress.
In these unusual times let's try to remember,
we should strive for world peace OUTSIDE of December.
It has naught to do with a shop or a store
but the spirit it brings should breach every shore.
Whatever your faith, be it Buddha or Christ
The true spirit of the season can not be priced.
The value and love lies in family and friends
and within those memories that never end.
And so let me say, as the last line I write
Throughout the world PEACE and let no one fight.

One of my chief Thanksgiving pleasures over the years has been to gaze upon all the EMPTY parking lots as I drive over the river and through the woods to auntie's house. Not this year.

Just trying to take it in stride. We must all pour our love into every day, EVERY day. That's Thanksgiving. That's Christmas. That's peace.

That's hope.
