Basics needed for volunteers at school fete Empty Basics needed for volunteers at school fete

Post by Elise Wed Oct 16, 2013 9:03 am

So two years later and I have come back to the forum. I am not sure what happened, possibly I was too young and not focused enough. But I ended up dedicating all of my time to my art (watercolour paintings, acrylic paintings and illustrations).

But... I was just asked one of my first clients (who is still my hairdresser haha) to help out at her daughters' school fete. I said yes because in the past I always enjoyed it and thought it would be fun. But now it is only a few days away and I am freaking out... I haven't face-painted in so long. Even though I won't be painting/promoting as a business I still feel the pressure. *Sigh* Sometimes being a perfectionist takes way to much stress.

The mother organising the fete has had so much on her plate she hasn't really had time to think about what the facepainters need! And because I haven't painted at a large event in sooooo long I can't think straight either!

So what do I need to organise for all of us so the day runs smoothly.. This is what I can think of so far:

- Baby wipes
- Tissues
- Paper towel
- Sorbolene Cream
- Buckets (for fresh water & emptying dirty water into)
- Hair Clips
- Paints
- Glitter

And MOST IMPORTANTLY.... What size brushes do you think are ESSENTIAL ! I need to pick up some brushes for the volunteers and not sure what sizes will be good general all-rounders. I know what I prefer already but not sure what is recommended by others.

Only 4 days to go... Eek I am feeling unprepared.

i'd use cotton swabs.

for brushes, get the round #4, #6, and for the volunteers, probably a round #1 in case they don't have good brush control for line work.

Get a 1/4" flat, a 3/4" flat....

Get some sponges too-that'll speed up base work in case they want to put a background to a simple design.

I have sometimes found that volunteers or new face painters do better with #2 & #3 brushes. They tend to use the whole brush and not just the tip in outlining and a smaller brush, while needing to be reloaded more often, results in better lines. #4 & #6 brushes can result in really fat outlines. Maybe have an assortment available?

Make sure they didn't get craft glitter. Alot of schools don't know the difference. That stuff will really scratch the eyes! You need cosmetic glitter that is made out of a fine polyester. For a last minute pinch I think you can buy it at beauty supply stores.
