Re: Christmas Step by Steps
Oh yeah, I remember those!!
WARNING >>> WARNING >>> TANGENT ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, what is it about the number of reindeer that Santa has that people can't remember?
I see it all the time... on cards, on face paintings, on cartoons, in movies ... all over!! There is a sleigh, flying through the air... with a little old driver so jolly and quick ...and pulling the sleigh... are different WRONG numbers of reindeer!!!
One reindeer (which one? Who had seniority? are the others laid off due to cut backs? This is not a "one horse open sleigh" it is SANTA'S sleigh!!),
two reindeer (are the others work to rule? on strike? what?),
+ three or four (are the others off on stress leave?),
+ five or six (one on sick leave, the rest were fired for falsifying their resumes? Was Cupid was actually a camel with a set of mule deer antlers tied to his head?),
seven (as seen in Rudolph - Santa states early in the show how he needs Comet - Rudolph's dad - to be there as he needs all eight to get the sleigh off the ground, THEN... at the end, instead of sticking Rudy at the front of the team, they take off the front two, replace them with Rudy... makes NO sense!!),
EIGHT!! Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen!!! EIGHT!! One reindeer... whahahahahaha... two reindeer.... whahahaha .... you get the idea (did you like my Count impression??)
And then... when Rudolph is added there should be NINE, not eight, not seven, not three... NINE reindeer ... NINE!!!
I accept "artistic license" generally for alterations to representations to objects... but this is SANTA'S REINDEER!!! There are EIGHT OF THEM, plus Rudolph in bad weather situations...
GET IT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your attention. I now return you to your regular programming.

Re: Christmas Step by Steps
Is it really Donder? I thought it was Donner. Too funny though, my husband and two kids were trying to name them all last night and couldn't name them all.
Re: Christmas Step by Steps
Shannon, I just have to ask about Olive? You didn't even mention her, no wonder she was/is so mean to Rudolph.
See lyrics below
Jenny
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer : Lyrics
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.
Olive the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.
Then one froggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then Olive the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history!

Donder und Blitzen = Thunder and Lightening (in German)
That was how it was originally written in "The Night Before Christmas"...
The Donner Party... well, that's not much of a Christmas story really.

Donner means thunder in German and Donder means thunder in Dutch.

Re: Christmas Step by Steps
Olive, The Other Reindeer is a book about a dog named Olive who thinks she is Santa's missing reindeer... and they made an animated version for television - Drew Barrymore is Olive's voice.
