Left my last gig in an ambulance...
It's been a full week now - I think I'm recovered enough to share, LOL.
I was painting a for a 2-hour birthday party at a circus school. We were all in the trapeze tent. When I had about 45 minutes left, I felt a sudden tightness in my chest, narrowing of vision, extreme breathlessness and dizzy. I painted till the end of the gig and then asked the staff if I could stay seated till the children left. I knew something was wrong since it hadn't passed and was planning to call 911. They were (of course) concerned and asked if I would like to wait in the office instead. I assented and walked w/one of the staff members - as I was walking I knew I wasn't going to make it there. I was on the phone w/911 and just handed the gal my phone. I basically collapsed on their front steps.
the client came to me to give me the check and I apologized - I told her I was having a bit of a medical emergency and she said, "I have doctors!" she ran and got some of the parents and they came running over to me, they were taking my pulse and trying to put cool compresses on my neck. My pulse rate was 230. By the time the ambulance arrived I was completely out of it. I was in a full SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) and had been for about an hour and 15 minutes before they converted it w/medication. I was admitted to the hospital and spent the whole weekend there. I'll be having a heart catheter procedure soon to fix up my heart - but...
this is how I looked in the ambulance, in the ER and for 5 hours till I was fully admitted...

Re: Left my last gig in an ambulance...
You look so....
FESTIVE!
Maybe you should have been a tiger.
It would have perfectly contrasted your lovely backless gown.
Sea Monkey Shooter anybody???

This is what I looked like AFTER they stopped my heart! LOL
Please note - the large black circles around my eyes are from crying in the ambulance. I was miserable.

Re: Left my last gig in an ambulance...
You and are are in a special club, Doe. The "Taken from a Gig in an Ambulance Club" - very exclusive. You and I may very well be the President and Vice President of it! I got taken by ambulance last July on the last night of one of my county fairs.
I had triplets - a matched set of kidney stones @ 6, 7, and 8cm... (I still have the 6cm one inside me somewhere) And when the poor ambulance drivers came I promptly threw up all over one of them.

Re: Left my last gig in an ambulance...
Glad you're on the mend. What a great photo to have for the memory album! Did anyone mention it or did they look at you then look away? That's what happened when I was at the hospital visiting mom in full fantasy tiger face paint.

Re: Left my last gig in an ambulance...
My daughter is an ER nurse. I bet all they had to hear was you were a face painter who became "symptomatic @ a gig" & they took it all in stride. They DO see some strange things! Seriously, agree w/Tina...you must have been so scared. Fell better soon!
Re: Left my last gig in an ambulance...
