Metallic face paint Empty Metallic face paint

Post by jonwhunt Sat May 18, 2013 3:51 pm

So I got the TAG 6 color metallic palette the other day, just tested it, not so happy with the results =( Does any company make a super vibrant, opaque, metallic paint? I see pictures online where the makeup looks like shiny chrome or something, what in the world are they using? Do I need to mix my metallics into regular colors so it has a base?

I LOVE Kryolan for metallics. Theirs are truly shiny! I did a blog post recently where I compared several brands of metallic paints. Here are a couple of my swatch photos for silver and gold:

There is a powder based metallic (glitter) you can pour over your painted design with a large brush, maybe you saw that kind of paint on a design??? Does anyone know what i mean??? I forgot the name.

A lot of people like TAG Pearls... There are quite a few brands that have some better colors, I don't prefer their silver or gold though.
Question, did you apply the paint before or after putting on white?

Mehron makes a metallic powder, you can add to your regular silver or even grey- and it is crome- it comes in gold, copper, etc.

Good luck, always hard when you don't like a purchase.

TAG has the best metallics in my opinion. They are opaque, blend well, have vibrant color and a nice metallic look. You might have used too much water when applying them. You want it very creamy in consistency.

I recently saw Linda Schrenk using the new Paradise Brilliant colors and they looked great as well.

I use mostly tag pearls, very nice blending, very shinny. I love Fab gold and sliver too.

I agree with Fairyfox, I think you must have seen photos of someone who'd used metallic powder, either over paint or with mixing liquid. Mehron makes some, Graftobian makes some, even Sephora carries it.

I just used FAB silver (by Silly Farm) for the first time today and loved how opaque it is.

The WOlfe gold metallic is very nice. It creates a pretty sheen that catches the light well. It's not super intense, but shiny enough to create an effect.

So I did some searching and apparently I was seeing pics where people had used Mehron metallic powders. I'm guessing you wouldn't want to mess with that if doing a kid's party? Too much mess? Is it even safe enough to use on kids?

I'll just have to keep trying out brands once I get more money. I started out doing special effects makeup and costumes, I didn't think ANY hobby/job could be more expensive then that... I was wrong lol. This stuff adds up fast when you're new and not sure what colors you like from which brands.

How bad is the perfume in the FAB brand paints? I don't understand why you'd perfume something going on the face of children anyway. All you need is for one kid to have sensitive skin and your day is ruined with angry parents. I'll probably save testing FAB paints until I've played with everything else lol

FAB is nice! TAG works fine for me, but I reach for my FAB or Kryolan more when I want it to be more metallic.

I didn’t notice a scent with FAB, I noticed a scent when I first got my Paradise paints, but don’t notice it now that I’ve used them a little bit.

I use Mehron powder at birthday parties. I pour out a tiny bit one the top of my gold paint before I start, then every time I need gold, it's there. I can use it mixed just with water and not with paint or any other mixing liquid and it still looks great. Here's a photo of it, keep in mind, he was a squinter so that's why it looks streaky.

Paradise has recently released a metallic line--the silver applies as brilliantly as FAB silver, I am assuming their other metallics are just as beautiful--oh, and no scent for those of you it bothers...

For some reason I'm having trouble posting pics I took. Message me privately and I'll send you a pic of the FAB silver I just discovered, which is super shiny and dense..I'm thrilled with it!

Paradise has now created a 'Brilliant Series' of colours, and the silver and gold in that collection are identical to the powders, very shiny and easier to work with, I did a bodypaint with that gold and silver, looked great!

YES! I just watched the youtube video Jest Paint did - it does look fabulous - I want that kit! Ebay has it on sale for $30.40 right now with free shipping in the us - I can’t buy it right now (have spent WAY too much lately) but thought some others might be interested.
