what colors do you use the most?

I got my Tag white and black in the mail today
what colors would you say you use the most in your kit? or you notice restocking it more often then others?...i think the next i will be buying a rainbow cake and a split cake for monsters(the light and dark green) and for tiger(the yellow and orange)...would that be the right way to go? or should i buy more regular colors for now?...right now i have a small start up kit from Michaels of Snaz and he TAG that i just got in the mail

Red for the arachnid creature. Pink and purple for the little girls of the world. And Snaz white for basework.

Red, a pink and purple split cake, a rainbow base blender, and I use my tag ocean one stroke a lot and maybe a green split as well? If you have splits/one strokes then you have all those basic colours in there anyway

What do you use for Spiderman red? Would bright red from Snaz work?

Bright red Snaz is great, but I use red Starblends and love it. It goes on dry, has great coverage, and can be painted over with the linework immediately.
My most used rainbow base is Havanah Sunset. Next up is my neon rainbow. I use most of my one-strokes to pieces, particularly Bluebird, Havanah Sunset, Leaf yellow, Pearl leaf, and Stargazer lily. I also use a home made version of the Magpie one-stroke all the time.
My Starblends white, red, black, yellow, and orange are used a lot.

White... go through that fast. Snaz or Kryolan for bases. I am usually refilling my palette every 3 weeks.

Black... Snaz - refill about once a month. TAG Pearl Black - same.

Red ... Snaz Bright Red... usually one or two per season.

I don't go through the Wolfe white and red nearly as fast as I only use them for detail work.

White/Black
TAG Tropical (a white, orange, pink or something like that) split. Use it for roses...

Next time you get black and white get Wolfe brand. I'm a TAG girl all over but for some reason I don't like their white at all. I like their pearl black for little ones but I think you need Wolfe black for nice line work.

Honestly, instead of trying to buy paint for EVERYTHING buy paints that fit the designs that you want to paint. I've found that I'm more of a painter like Heather Green (of Silly Farm), I like to lay down a rainbow base or a one-stroke shape and then add flowers and linework to that. I even use different rainbows for kitties, leopards, tigers, etc. For boys I like Starblends and so I've stopped buying full sized basic colors and have most of the Starblends for full faces (Superheroes, skulls, animals, dragons)

Good luck. I used to stare at the screen for hours trying to get a paint order together. You kind of need to figure out the kind of designs you like to do before you can know what kind of paint to get. My latest advice is to find a painter you really admire and buy their favorite paints so you can duplicate their designs.

since last month, I've gone through 3 blacks, 2 whites and one pink.i would've used up all of my red, but i improvised with pink and used considerably less.


i WOULD have gone through a teal and a purple, but i improvised with blue and green.

my next purchase will DEFINITELY be a black, a white, and a teal. i'd really like to find a nice purple but I've got some purple in my rainbow cakes and it has been enough so far.

I think I like my Diamond FX black and white + some good base colors from Mehron the most.

And of course glitter and metallics are super nice, but those do come second because everything can be made with a good black + white, combined with some skin friendly base colors.

White and red.

I'm fairly new as well. I LOVE my 12 color palette from Diamond FX. I've probably painted 200 faces so far with it. Little goes a long way. I did run out of the white and black in it and ordered the big size of each. Only thing I'm really hunting is a yellow that shows up better, and a rainbow cake. Now that I'm doing more flowers and leaves I plan to get some split cakes... but I'd say if you want to save money just starting out you can't go wrong with Diamond FX 12 color palette and maybe a rainbow cake =) I recently ordered Diamond FX metallics, but got TAG shimmer palette by mistake... NOT a fan of TAG shimmers, just personal preference. If I'm going to pay for paints that are meant to be shiny, they better be a LOT different then my normal paints.

But like I said before its all personal preference... because I could order billion cakes, but it won't make my strokes look as fluid as Pashur or some of the guys on this forum =) And I'm sure some of these people could take a rusty nail, melt down Starburst candies, and paint the designs I'm working on lol

Are TAG shimmers different from TAG Metallics? Because I have PartyXplosion (TAG) metallics and love hem very much!!

Not sure if there's a difference. I ordered Diamond FX metallix and they shipped me TAG. I emailed them and they said it was the TAG shimmer. I kept them vs. paying return shipping, which I thought was b.s. since they were the ones that shipped the wrong item. But live and learn.... and never shop there again. I think my future purchases will be with Metina or whoever you guys keep talking about being so awesome.

In all fairness though I could be too tough on the manufacturers. I bought metallic palette thinking it would be more... um... metallicy lol. After reading some reviews on the forums I've come to understand that unless you're using Mehron metal powders or something like that then a faint shimmer is best you can do.

try the new mehron Paradise Brilliant series, that silver is amazing, best silver on the market these days, and no need to blend the metallic powders anymore!
