Cheek art?
I am just getting started and my work is okay but I am too slow. There seem to be some not-so-positive opinions on cheek art. I was wondering if it would be detrimental to my image if I started out with cheek art and worked my way up?

Re: Cheek art?
I don't think anyone looks down on cheek art. Cheek art just seems to be a lot more time consuming and tedious than full faces contrary to popular belief. I'm still new to this world but it seems the veterans find that clients think they can get a cheaper deal if they only paint cheek art when it's actually faster (and therefor cheaper) to do large designs.
I'd say do what feels comfortable to you. If that means doing cheek art then that's fine. But don't let full faces scare you off either. You might surprise yourself!

Re: Cheek art?
Cheek art does have sortof a bad rep among SOME professionals, but unfairly so! That's why I JUST created a Facebook group for "Cheek Art Face Painting!" There is nothing "beginner" about cheek art at all. Your quality of work has nothing to do with the size or placement of the designs. Sure, you can make your cheek art designs much more simplified if you want, but they also can require a lot of precision, patience, and talent as well. I have been face painting professionally for over 18 years and only a couple years ago did I begin adding some masks and full faces to my design boards. Cheek art still remains the favorite of most of my clients. So, in my opinion, no, it would not be detrimental to your image, and I wouldn't consider full faces as "working up." Both can be done equally amazing or equally bad! ;-) If you really want to build a good image for yourself, focus on quality now, no matter what type of design. Speed only comes with time and practice as you get more familiar with your designs and comfortable with the job! Best of luck to you!!!

Re: Cheek art?
I have the upmost respect for cheek art painters!! I do not do it because if takes me way to long. I can paint the majority of my board in way less time than a cheek. I recently met a local painter who uses stamps and then embellishes them for cheeks. It's cute and it has its place. Some parents prefer the cheek because it easier to wash off.
Re: Cheek art?
Did you already consider a one eye design??? And a ful face can be really fast if you use sponges the right way. Sometimes my cheek art takes longer than a full face butterfly. Just practice and you'll get faster.
