halloween cheek art
Hi! I'm painting at a trick-r-trunk at my church and I need some Halloween cheek art or quick little designs. They told me it can't be too scary, like no zombies or skulls. I have a jack-o-lantern, a spider web, and a cute ghost. Any other ideas?

Re: halloween cheek art
Oooh!! Halloween and church, a tricky one I totally understand, and I'm Irish and it's an ancient traditional festival here (we call it oiche Samhain) and I'm 'reformed' and ..... well, you know what I mean.
Have you checked out the 'seasonal' butterflys in this months challange?. They are amazing. I've been recommending them to everyone and because there are a few 'harvest' butterflys, it's church friendly.
I have to say, I was doing a face painting workshop for a mate of mines church group and they have the 'no scary' policy too. I pointed out to them, boys will ask for scary/gross faces all year round. That's just boys for ya.

Re: halloween cheek art
I did a fall festival at a church and did cheek art like a cat silhouette in front of the moon. A wolf silhouette in front of a sunset. I actually made stencils of the cat and the wolf to speed up the process and allow other people to help with the process. It worked out great.
Re: halloween cheek art
I do several church events every year, and the kids mostly ask for ordinary things. Pumpkins, butterflies, princess crowns or superheroes. They usually know not to ask for gross or scary stuff.
Re: halloween cheek art
Paint whatever design that you really like the best on your cheek...I do that and then it seems to help sell that picture. I paint an orange monarch butterfly for fall festivals a lot. Skull and cross bones are good. That is more like a pirate than too scary. Frogs are cute too...And fall leaves are quick.
Re: halloween cheek art
I do a spider web/butterfly morph w/ a spider in the center(there's a similar one in this months challenge.
Re: halloween cheek art
You could do a gravestone in the moonlight or with a ghost peeking out from behind it. Maybe a Frankenstein monster's head --- he's more often "cute" than really scary. I don't think vampires are overly scary either, if you don't work at making them so. Look for Halloween stencils online to get some more ideas.

Re: halloween cheek art
Well, it didn't go so well. It was cold and windy (I think it was 48 degrees), so my water flew over in my lap a few times. My hand was shaking so much nothing came out very well, but all the kids seemed to like it. They wanted to keep the "western theme" so I was working off of two hay bales. That didn't work out too well either. A couple people did take my cards though, so I guess it wasn't all bad. It was too dark for pictures though, sorry Maybe I'll have better luck next time

Re: halloween cheek art
Shaking hands due to cold/damp weather sounds familiar! I was at an event last December (HOA Christmas tree lighting outdoors in the neighborhood park). We had 4 face painters and 2-3 balloon artists, and we were all freezing! Luckily for that event, I had rented a car, and I took a break from the painting myself, and one-by-one insisted that the others take a break, jump in the car (where I had the engine running, and heater turned on full blast) to warm up. Everyone really appreciated it. If I start doing many colder weather outdoor gigs, I think I will buy myself a portable space heater of some type. You cannot paint (at least not well) if you can't feel your fingers!
