Best paint for body painting? Thanks!
Hi everyone, I have searched, and searched, and searched and have not found much info about the best paint brand to use for body painting. Also what tools, etc.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Re: Best paint for body painting? Thanks!
The best paint for body painting is the brand you prefer. If it works for you and gives you the results you want then it is for you the best.
There is no one single best face or body paint, it is subjective. We all have preferences.
Start with the brands the top body painters use world wide. Kryolan, Paradise and Wolfe are top brands at the World body Painting Festival.

What Loretta said.
Personally I prefer using Fardel cream for body painting base work as it stays tacky - it doesn't dry out and flake, and the colours stay bright. The paint does solidify enough to tolerate slight touching and is tough enough to last through a day of painting and competition or meet and greets.
I use other brands for details and accents... Tim Gratton Body Paint in black is my choice for any black areas and linework - it is an acrylic base body paint that can be thinned with water (50/50) and is wonderful.
It is all about what you are used to though - your techniques and products you know.

I love using my Wolfe paint, but I have started to use paradise more as well, as it is creamier and a little easier to blend at times. Wolfe just dries too quickly sometimes.
But I agree with both comments above, start by using whatever brand of paint you are most comfortable using.

Thank you so much ladies!
I am used to using tag, DFX and some Wolfe but I the what I found was they those tent to crack or peel on larger areas.
Laura, Paradise was one of the brands I saw being used the most because of its creaminess. I can use the other brands I have for details and line work.
Linda Schrenk helped me tremendously, I was on the phone with her for hours. Thank you so much Linda for offering to help and being so patience with me.
Thank you again for your input, it is really appreciated!

I have found that Wolfe, Snaz, DFX and TAG crack.
Kryolan is my favorite. VERY bright and long wear time. My favorite part is that it goes for ages. I think my friend Lorrin has used the same black for like 5 full body paintings and there is STILL some in there. Paradise is also very nice but it does not seem to go as far for me.
Wolfe Metallics also did not seem to crack as much as the mate colors (different formulas?) But it goes even FASTER than paradise. I think I used an ENTIRE 32g Metallic Pink and only got from the head down to the breasts.
If you are going to be painting someone just to take pictures right afterward then just use your favorite brand. It is the walking and moving for hours that makes the paint crack.

I have to check out the kryolan too. Kinda mentioned the colors are amazing!
What brush did you use?

KABUKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO IMPORTANT!!!!!!!
If I can offer just ONE piece of advice that you will take is
-Buy at least 1 kabuki brush for laying down the base.
Forget the sponge you will be there ALL night. Other brushes simply do not hold as MUCH paint and don't have as many bristles so they steak.
You can buy them CHEAP or up to like $20
I went into sally and they happened to have some on clearance for 75 cents. I think they were not even kabukis, maybe just a REALLY puffy powderbrush? still, it worked too! I do find that an actual kabuki brush is much nicer, but hey, for less than a buck it did its job.
Also the cheap brush died after I tried to was it so it was a 1 time use kinda thing

You can really buy them anywhere but i found the best deal at Ulta + coupon.

I love kabukis too for belly painting. You get really smooth, even bases VERY quickly. If you can, try to get one that doesn't shed much, or you'll be picking hairs off the skin...

I have a brush that is for makeup, it is huge and makeup gurus say it is amazing for liquid foundation, I am going to try that. It's like 3 bucks at target!
Thanks ladies!

Foundation brush is not as good as a kabuki.
No competition.
Look up the pictures so you can see what it looks like.

You can use a kabuki brush for foundation. I have the bare minerals one and works great with liquid foundation. I am not talking about the flat looking ones but those are great too.
Re: Best paint for body painting? Thanks!
I use a creamy, glycerin based paint and airbrush paint for the bases and line work quality beeswax based paints for linework. Since you're doing the painting for a fashion show, there will probably have to be painted models sitting around until walk time...be mindful of where you place your design or schedule a retouch time to fix the painted areas that will be affected by any slouching or sitting. Good luck!
