FUN UPDATE! You all might find this TV show interesting!

Hi All,
Today I was watching episodes online of one of my favorite shows "Shark Tank" on ABC. For those of you who don't know it, hopeful people, with an idea or product, come on the show and pitch their product for money to get their business going or bigger. 5 Judges, who are famous investors "judge" how good the investment might be for money and make real deals with the person to give them money but take part of their company or profits.

Anyway, I start watching "Episode 12" and to my shock, it's two people with face painted faces, but they're those face painted "decal" thingys that we all mentioned once in some thread. They pitched their whole thing and the "Sharks" went crazy over it. As a face painter, it was super interesting to watch! Be careful, this show is freaking addictive!!! You can't stop watching episode after episode and it gives you all kinds of ideas!!!!

PS - I just took the opportunity to contact this decal face painting company for freelance design, since I'm already a mass market Halloween designer AND a face painter! Will keep you informed if they get back to me and are interested!!!

I read a discussion about this on the Snaz listserv and it's interesting how different their perspective was.

I think it's a cool product. I love my Violent Lips - I'm all about cool stuff. Will it make f'painters lose work? Doubt it. Everyone likes the *process* of it.

I think they would be a great facial mask. Clean out the pores etc.

It is like wearing a large waterless tattoo - sort of like covering your face in scotch tape.

i found it threatening.
Some prospective customers could choose a do it yourself from QVC rather then call a face painter as the result would be cheaper.
i do not feel this is an innovative item that could be integrated in a face painter kit, rather a replacement.

is probably a good idea in a stadium, as the number of spectators is great. I don't think marketing would care much where is sold.

I agree with Doe... even though I think the product is interesting, fun and cheap, and this MIGHT seem like a threat to face painting, I don't think it will be....people enjoy the painting process. Such an item, that you slap on your face in a second, will never replace the "experience" of being painted for people. Plus you know how it is with real face painting, kids/adults love to ask for specific things and colors, like they're "designing" their own face and had a hand in it. Not so with these. You have to take what's offered. I DO think it's a really lucrative product for fast application in the main industry this guy made it for, which is sports events. Easy on, fast face for only a few bucks, so I think it can only hurt sports events face painters. Also being in the Halloween industry, I can also see it selling for Halloween, as kids can match certain costumes with a face. But relatively few kids/adults "privately" have their face painted at Halloween, so I don't think it will hurt our business. Shannon, I agree, great facial pore mask, kind of like those "pore" nose strips, whatever they're called, lol!! I don't think we have to worry, I just posted it cause I found the whole thing and the show very interesting. That guy was offered a LOT of money for his product. Actually, wish it had been ME that thought of it, lol!!!!

They've been around for a little while. I don't think it is any threat to face painters generally.

I love Shark Tank - this one was a good one - how gross was it when he ate the mask right off his face though? I know it was to prove how safe it was, but it still grossed me out a bit!

The guy that was the owner of "Game Face" on the TV show SHARK TANK just called me today! He found it interesting that I was both a mass market designer (who already sells to HIS clients) AND a face painter. He wants me to design faces for his company!!!!!!! He said they're in the middle of doing some things for the company right now, but if I can hold out about 3 mths, they'll get back to me to design faces for the decals!!!! I said yes, of course!
