stressed and worried
My dad has been in the hospital since friday, with pneumonia. Normally that wouldn't be a bad thing, but he has a bunch of lung problems to begin with. They have him in medical icu due to his immune system. On another note, its hard to get my mom to eat while dad's in the hospital, though she tries to act like nothing is wrong. typical but still stressful.
Sorry i wanted to vent.
I hope he gets better soon, the house is way to quiet without him

Re: stressed and worried
Awe, I hope he gets better soon to Krissiemarie! It must be hard for him to be away from home but I'm sure the hospital will give him the best care. Maybe you and your mom should bring his favorite meal to him and enjoy it together. Best of luck hun!

This kind of thing is so hard. I'm glad your dad is improving and now maybe your mom will eat.

Re: stressed and worried
So I guess this will be my life has a home care giver for my father, constant trips to the er, just spend another 8 hrs there just for him to be transferred to the va hospital. I don't know how long he'll be in this time.
Re: stressed and worried
So sorry, Krissie. I took care of my aged mama and those LONGGGGG hours in the ER are so stressful and draining. Seeing your parents health go downhill is a sad thing. Hoping the best for you.

Praying for you....
I was my dad's caregiver & now I'm my mom's. I understand , it used to be if my mom got sick, she's sniffle for a few days & be fine. I'd catch it from her & cough for a month. Now if she gets the slightest cold she ends up in the hospital for days. She's 75 & also has just been (finally) diagnosed with the early stages of dementia (we've suspected for a while).

Re: stressed and worried
My dad has copd, severe pulmonary fibrosis. and a bunch of other stuff and he's only 62. its rough, but atleast the VA pays for everything. So thats a big burden on our shoulders wondering how we'll pay those medical bills.
my mom is thankfully still in good health, but the dr's are not very optimistic about the out come. once and if he gets released he'll have a hospital bed and a bunch of heavy duty breathing equipment. depends on how you look at it, he could have anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 years left. depends on how bad the fibrosis gets. when they took blood out of the artery last night it was black, he's not getting alot of oxygen. :/ but he's finally made a living will so i guess thats a plus side.

Wow, Krissie, that is a lot for a man his age. Thankfully the medical won't mounting up around your eyeballs on top of everything else. Your poor mom, it must be so hard on her. You are in my prayers.

Re: stressed and worried
Krissiemarie,
please don't give up on hope. No matter what you hear, keep believing he will get better. See it happening in your mind and heart. My mentor in life Daisaku Ikeda was diagnosed with severe tuberculosis when he was 18 and given few years to live.
He is now 84 years old and has received over 300 honorary doctorate nomination from University around the world.
Keep your life state positive and his as well! Ask him to say Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo three times at least once in his lifetime.
I am a buddhist and that is our daily chanting. It is not only a word it encompasses
life itself as the source of energy that originated us. It is not an easy subject i know and you do not need to believe it. Just make him say it and please u say it too as much as you like, if you do.
i will keep him in my daily prayers. What is his name?
"The moment we resolve "I will become Healty!" "I will become Strong!" "I will work Cheerfully for kosen-rufu (world peace)!" our lives begins to move in that direction. We have to make up our minds first. Daisaku Ikeda

Re: stressed and worried
It is hard, please try. Mind and body is two but not two, in the sense that though they appear separate they function together as one! That is why your mind has to stay positive. There are so many way that our body help itself to cure that looking at the body at work is in itself fascinating. Not saying we don't need doctors, we can help by staying positive.
The way i keep positive is by chanting those words daily whenever something affect me, and even then sometimes is hard, as somebody said well in another thread "life seems to through stuff at you," it sure does! I believe that is our chance to eradicate our bad karma and become even happier.
I will add him on my list of daily prayer.
Don't give in to despair! Please.

Re: stressed and worried
He's still in the hospital. The doctors are waiting till we get all the equipment he needs at home before he gets released. and the VA is slow. so it might take a while. But he's sounding better. looking it too. The dr says if we can keep him the way he is and make sure he gets no more infections he could last another few years. I need to buy masks. for if i get sick. but thank you all. for your prayers and well wishes
