MORTIFIED!!! Face painting inquiry gone VERY WRONG!!

So, 4 mths ago I broke up with my 3 yr. boyfriend. I took his name out of my phone, but he still calls, texts, every few days, even though I rarely answer and have told him to stop (he's a good guy, but with problems). This week I finally picked up the phone and told him I had started seeing someone else and to leave me alone. He was devistated and hung up shortly thereafter. So anyway....yesterday I get a call and it's him again. It was a "missed call", he didn't leave a message. A few minutes later I get this text "Please call me when you can". So I text back (reply to THAT text) "What do you want? Just TEXT it". Nothing. So now I'm upset and a send two more, separate, VERY long texts, explaining why I don't want to hear from him and recalling all the things he's done (VERY personal). The next day he calls again and I let it go to voicemail. I listen to the voicemail and it's this really understanding lady, telling me her "young daughter" got "very intense" texts from me and to please stop texting her daughter, that she's "just a child" and she can see I made a mistake. I'm like WHAT? I look back at the texts to my ex-BF and it's HIS number but the very last number of the 10 digits is a "3" instead of a "2". I was like OMG, and I texted the woman back apologizing profusely that her number was 1 digit off from his and that I'm a Mom too and I'm mortified that I sent them to a little girl!!! This nice lady writes back "It's OK, thank you. May God bless you" AARGH!!!!! I'm SURE it was originally a face painting call and text. I don't give out my cell, except for my face painting business and friends and every call I have ever gotten that doesn't come up as a "name" in my caller ID is ALWAYS a face painting call. Needless to say, they didn't call again to hire me. I was MORTIFIED!!!!

OOOoooo thats a rough one to swallow.. Maybe you should put his name back in your phone so it does come up as him

Wow, what a horrible cooincidence that the numbers were so similiar...sorry that happened to you. On the bright side, they probably didn't even realize it was you, the face painter. Most people don't pay much attention to phone numbers that they don't call regularly. They may still call you for the job, just keep your lips zipped and don't mention that mistake when they do lol.

lol, Erica, I actually thought of that, but if they call again, I won't have the nerve to answer it, even if it means losing a job!!!!!!

Oh don't pass up on it! If they call back that means they really DONT know that you are the culprit! You dont deserve to lose a job over something so trivial...just mums the word lol!

I used to delete numbers, until a friend told me she never did, for that very reason. Instead, she gave them nicknames

So this guy I went out with a couple times earlier in the year, who said it wasn't what he was looking for, then reappeared a couple of weeks ago only to (long story) reaffirm why he will not be getting another chance, is still in my phone as "Jason - douchebag"

I wouldn't think it was a face painting call if it came from a young girl... unless she maybe got one of your business cards and decided she was going to hire you all on her own (I think that has happened to almost everyone!) She may have just dialed your number accidentally herself.

Don't sweat it. You handled it beautifully and maybe, just maybe that woman may remember you when someone asks her someday if she knows a face painter for an upcoming event!

Why do we give cell phones to young kids? I didn't let my Daughter have a cell phone till she was old enough to wear makeup and proved she would use it responsively.

I totally agree that young kids shouldn't have cell phones.

Interestingly enough, MIss Ronnie, when I'm at birthday parties you'd be surprised how many of the KIDS take my card (always girls) and say "I'm having you at MY party", lol, maybe it WAS te kid who called me...after all, why would the MOM use the kid's phone to call me, right?
