Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Tina, Your dolphin mask came out beautiful, especially for first time. The color is so pretty and the dolphin looks playful with it's body curving into the eyebrow and your cute model brings it all together with her gorgeous eyes
Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
I promised myself that I'd pick up my brushes and paint every day, and I'm determined to do that (I missed one day when I was stuck in hospital!)....but today I'm very tired, full of cold, and I wasn't really up for it.
I have the "Sunset" split cake from DFX and I've been a bit stuck on what to actually use it for. It was one of those "ooh, pretty shiny thing!" buys, rather than a sensible one...so if any of you have some ideas, let me know. In the meantime, I decided to do a butterfly with it, to see how it looked:
I'm not brilliantly happy with it, and I've definitely done better, but I think it has potential. The colours are bright and I dragged the outer black layer into the others a bit, before doing some linework with Wolfe black.
When I've got some energy again, I'm planning a rose-based sugar skull in my head...

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Kammy, I like your butterfly for some reason to me it has sort of a lacey look to it. I too promised to paint everyday even if it's just teardrops and swirls. Today I painted these for a gig:
I actually posted them on another thread, I was asking for help from the forum. The gig is western theme! Tina came to the rescue and gave me some really good ideas

It just said "Sunset" when I bought it. It's neon yellow, orange, gold and black, if that helps?Tina Halstead wrote:Is it the Havana sunset?

Thanks, Amy. I'm still tired today, but loading myself up on oatmeal in the hopes thatamylady222 wrote:I am impressed with your stick to it-ness! Love your butterflys....so pretty!
- my split cake order arrives later (ohhhhh yes)
- I have the energy to paint with it!
And Belle - glad to hear I have a persistence (stubbornness??) twin! I think we only get anywhere with arty/creative things if we practice lots, and I'm hoping to develop some muscle memory for line work, etc. over time too.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Kammy what an awesomely creepy skull! Love it! I just got my extreme facepainting book in the mail! I'm so excited! I also just ordered a practice head off the forum here! And I set up a facebook link! I feel so productive! Now to find some time to paint! ha! https://www.facebook.com/LeilaniMassageandDesigns I want to like all the facebook pages in the main forum where they're all listed but I just haven't had the time yet. Busy working full time, parenting, remodeling, and more! I need more time for painting and lurking here:)
Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Thank you, Leilani! I enjoyed doing both, though I've just ordered a pot of cake blood so I don't have to mix my own anymore.
I love it when new things arrive! I have the "friendly" half of the Wolfe Bros. book in electronic form, but not the fiendish one. Now I've got a decent gig this month, I might have to order it. The half I do have is brilliant.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Hi everyone! Been having company in and out all week and seems like I get on here to look around and then get" interrupted" by real life. I feel far, far behind on all the threads...it is amazingly hard to catch up on what's been going on here.
I like to comment on everyone's pictures individually, and I feel so rude not to... but for now, I guess I will just have to say I'm enjoying seeing what everyone is doing in the "newbie lounge." So many fine pictures!!!
I didn't know the Wolfe book came in two parts, because mine has both combined in one. Mine even came with a dvd demo of one of the faces. Incredible what those brothers can do.
I did a peacock out of the friendly half of the book that I hope to post soon (if I don't get interrupted again
Kammy, your monsters are wonderful! and last night I read this in my 44 Scotland St series: "The Scottish sun was so easily distracted from its task, so quick to think of excuses not to shine, so reticent in conferring its favours." ...Thought that might give you a smile, especially if it is as gloomy there as it's gotten here the last two days.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Daphne, that is the cutest thing! Love those giraffes!!
Amy, I was going to "post a note" asking where YOU were. I haven't been on much, but when I was I never saw you...or any posts from you. Glad you're here!
I can't seem to post my latest painting (it is more huge than I normally get, and my 'normal' ones are huge!) so I'll try later.
Ladysinaz, where are you? Please come back and paint some more...you are not failing at painting 'high class things!' I am just so proud of you for doing those paintings. Still in awe that you could paint that 'big mouth' on yourself! Whew! And I looked at your website...your henna tattoos are so beautiful, I'm sure if you keep up the practice on your face painting you will be happy with it!
Leilani, Loved your peacock feathers! your line work is so delicate and pretty. Your kit is very nice. I have the same dfx "samplers" as you have! Nice set up on your laptop with the split cakes. What is that in the tube like thing next to your dfx samplers? and in that flat box in front of you split cakes (has little round circles.) I looked at your face book page and I'm hopping in my car and heading up to Washington for a massage What a gift massage is and such a wonderful luxury. Your are a busy girl, working fulltime, parenting, remodeling and starting to face paint too!! Wow. Can I assume you are Hawaiian with that screen name? or just like Hawaiian things?
Belle, Cute western theme menu board. Have you done that gig yet? (sorry, I've been "away" and can't remember where I read about it!) Please post pictures when you do, would love to see them!
Guess I will just have to study some more to see why I can't post my picture without it filling 2 computer screens worth of space!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Thank you Amy...I don't use the photo thingy from the forum, but I imagine it (Imgur) is similar so I will check it out and try again! (The one I was just trying to load was GIANT like those that go off the edge of the screen! )
I notice some of the pictures people post are quite small...and I CAN click on them, but I rather like it when I come across the bigger ones and I can see the detail right there with my very eyes ...and not have to do that clicky thing to open it bigger in another screen.
So what does everyone else prefer to come across? Small to click on? Medium? or what?? (assuming no one likes/or wants to have their own go over the line into the "darkness" ) I don't want mine to be all 'medium-big' and obnoxious...

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
It has a FAT head, but it is an eye design (from the Wolfe brothers book) and I wanted to paint it so I would have practice for the human eyeball size
Done with DFX metalics, plus ordinary DFX, and Wolfe black lines...

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Hi everyone. I just did my second show at a school yesterday. I've been face painting for years for my kids, family and church. This is the first year I begin to do festivals and fairs. I am a painter by trade, meaning I paint on canvas and I really enjoy face painting. I love the children's reactions most of all.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Thank you all for the kind reassurances I have such a hard time painting on my own face, I wonder if I'm ever going to 'get it' when I don't always have others to practice on. But as least I have my arms and legs.
Tazmarie, Welcome! looking forward to having you here! Come paint with us as soon as possible!
Belle, we can be the 'peacock girls!' I think they are my favorite too...I'm hoping to develop some more peacock designs. So join me pleeease! Anyone else interested?
Lizzie, I am so honored to have a pro's compliment! Thank you for popping in to take a look! Hope you are having a Good day today.
