Love ALL of these designs!! Some of you don't look like noobies though!
Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Thanks so much for your kind responses girls! @Appren the first two are both done with the TAG Fairy Floss cake, I have to admit it was my favorite for quite a while but has been replaced by the TAG Jewel and Northern Lights (I may just be in love with the name of the Northern Lights one given that I am a Canadian girl ) but I still use the Fairy Floss all the time, such soft colors are a great backdrop for so many designs. The Northern lights cake is the one I used for the butterfly in my avatar, really similar to the very popular Havana Sunset I think.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
OK... I have to confess that I a terribly shy when it comes to showing anything that I do when it comes to being creative. I'm super self conscious, and a bit of a perfectionist - so I tend to just hide things until I perfect them, but, I've decided to step out of my comfort zone since everyone is so helpful with feedback
I got my first ever rainbow cake yesterday. This is my first ever attempt to use it. It's not as easy as it looks in the videos that I've watched LOL! I did really like it though, and am looking forward to more attempts.
I'm not loving the stripes by her nose. She moved while i was getting ready to do a stripe, and I tried to go with it. I'm hoping just going with it becomes easier with experience - so that next time it might look better

You guys are ALL doing awesome, and never be afraid to show your stuff, at worst, people will try to help, at best, you'll find you did better than you thought. Plus, I'm loving the inspiration from you all!
Sarah, TAG fairy floss is now at the top of my wishlist!

@Appren, lol! it is a beautiful cake and the real plus is that it's one of the cheaper rainbow cakes too because it's not a pearl or neon. Just saying you might be able to pick it up sooner rather than later and if you buy paints like me - I'm the "Oh, I saved $5 on that one so that means I have $5 more to spend now " kind of a girl then try and pick up the TAG Gelati one too if you don't have it yet, it makes the most beautiful butterflies with a simple crinkle black edge and some white dots. That was the part that was hardest for me right at the start, I never knew what cakes to order because unless I had seen a specific design with a specific cake I wasn't too sure what to make with them. I still have that issue really, I just yesterday took a step and ordered cakes that I have never seen used before because some paints are just too pretty to leave behind!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
I'm like that too I think subscribing to fabatv for just the month, it changed my thinking a lot and watched people doing things with cakes and colours I would have stared blankly at lol I'm starting to get a bit more adventurous now and playing around with colours, I think the best way (for me) is masks/eye designs. There are some cakes and I think...why did I get that? :s But if you force yourself to play around with it, you surprise yourself with what you can come up with. It was overwhelming at first. When I face painted years ago, all blending was pretty much on a sponge from separate colours (24 reg colours and 12 pearls) doing standard designs. Now there's split cakes, one strokes, masses of vibrant colour and a choice of brushes and brands and you sit and think...where to start!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
I had some time to post yesterday and spent a lot of time commenting individually on everyone's pictures (LOVE all the work!) and it ALL DISAPPEARED into nowhere!!!
That's happened to me a number of times and is soooooooooooo frustrating! It also makes me sad because I wanted to let you each know what I liked about your paintings because everyone has their own special talents and I’m learning much from each of you!
From now on, I'm typing everything up in Word 1st now so I don’t have that happen again!
I don't want to ignore anyone now, but I have just a few minutes again (life sure gets in the way of having fun on this forum sometimes!!! ) and I really wanted to tell Kingsmeadmama that I am so PROUD of her for overcoming her fear and sharing! Your tiger is great! And don't be hard on yourself (I know...easier said than done ) Look forward to you sharing more with us!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
to all of you I've just had a look through your newbie free for all & just want to say your all doing so well. I also think this post is an awesome idea to feel comfortable & watch each other grow & grow. Practice is the key & your all doing plenty of that! Keep up the great work ladies
Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Kingmeandmama...the rainbow sponging does indeed look easier on all the tutorials. The first time I tried a rainbow tiger I felt like I was pushing too hard on my poor daughter just to get good color. She did not however end up with a sponge imprint on her forehead so I guess I am good.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Painted my first cheetah today on my 2 year old. She wanted to be a cheetah so badly but would not sit still for anything lol. So i know the line work and dots could be better but this is how it turned out. Let me know what you think or if you have any pointers for me :-)
And my son wanted to be a snow monster so here is a Yeti. First time painting a yeti too lol.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Laci, you have really been busy girl!! I love your faces...can't imagine how you get such great painting on a 2 year old! Loved that little cat face you did on "page 12." You are getting down those Extreme Wolfe faces really well. Impressive bunch of 'monster' faces too...I can see your boys like to ham it up
Sarah, enjoyed your paintings too. Such excellent line work on your unicorn and the face below it. Especially liked your last face...just love the colors you picked for it too! So glad to have you joined us here!
Leilani, you have some Very imaginative friends and I think your rose to the challenge! Especially liked the last one with the swirls, loved how you brought it all together with the swirls on the lips, that really looks neat!
Daphne, you and your daughter (?) look so cute together in those pictures! Looks like you were having lots of fun. I think that little heart on her is so sweet.
Tina, once again you amaze me. I am so impressed that you have come up with your own designs!! I imagine your cake business designing is coming in very handy in face painting. Love your peacock and snow queen, especially. Would love to use them in my inspiration folder. I am also going to make the bamboo brush holder you made (the one you improved upon in another thread.) How did you determine how far apart to glue the elastic? Did stick a brush down to gauge the width as you glued it? And if so, was it a problem pulling the brush out? Thanks!
Kammy, enjoying your pretty ‘twin avatar,’ (it sure glows in the picture!) for now…I’m sure you will be back with something else after your gig and party this weekend! (I guess Dartiegirl, you and I have a bond…all of us growing up ‘sisterless’ )

Thanks Valeri! I really appreciate your encouragement!
Lacey, LOVE the yeti! Awesome job! Your son's missing teeth complete the look! I have a son that looks to be about the same age (based solely on the similar teeth) and I'm pretty sure he'll be toothless if he loses another LOL!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Thanks for all the kind feedback Valerie!
I love the cheetah, Lacey! It's adorable! I like the details of the lines around the chin and ears and muzzle!
I totally agree with Valerie - @ Daphne you two look super cute with matching spider webs!
Sarah - those are all wonderful!! I liked things about each of them! The giraffe is my favorite!

This Saturday we went to the trick or treating event at the Seattle Woodland Park Zoo for their annual pumpkin bash! I did this painting on myself without a closeup mirror and without my glasses in a public bathroom because we were in a somewhat hurry. ha! It was ok:)
close up
funny at zoo shot:)
I painted my partner for the first time. We were inspired by our family watching all the Thundercat episodes over the last three years ha!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Holy busy few weeks batman .. not painting tho :/
But i did have a makeup to do for a friend/client on Sat.
Everyone is doing really good
Here is my makeup on Sat. i may have cheated and used the airbrush for the base. (sponges would have been quicker, but the airbrush goes on so light. good if someone has to wear it all day)

Daphne- I love the picture with you and your daughter, too cute for words! The spider design is beautiful and your highlighting looks amazing!
Leilani- cute pink tiger! It's hard to paint your own face especially in a rush and in a public bathroom lol, you did a great job tho! the Thundercats face rocks, my son would love that one.
Ladysinaz- that sugar skull is amazing! The rose on your forehead is beautiful! Nice job!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Valerie- Thank you so much for the words of encouragement.
I love that book so much. It's so fun to branch out and try to do things I've never done before. The yeti i add fur around the face that the book didn't have. Added my own little touch to it i guess hehe. Before i use to copy dot for dot but if feels good to finally be OK to change up a design a little. Guess I'm growing as a face painter who would have thought. I still have a LONG ways to go for sure but I'm growing confidence in my skills and getting all the positive feedback from fellow face painters helps a TON! Thank you everyone!

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Triceratops inspired by silly heather. This one is def going on my display board, it's easy and i think boys will love it! The front horn is a little wonky, i started to outline it then he decided to try and jump off the counter lol. BTW i LOVE using starblends with stencles. Takes the guess work out of how little or much, or how wet or dry the paint on your sponge should be to do stencle work.

Re: Show and Tell #1 a Newbie "free for all"
Very nice Lacey!! And thanks for the tip on starblends with stencils because so far I've only had disasters with paint/stencils.
ladysinaz, welcome back! What a lovely job you did! and the whole outfit is beautiful. Love how the colors and flowers go so nice and complement each other.
