Kinda nervous!
Hey ladies!
I'm going to try to get a PPF spot at a harvest festival this year (Calhoun County, GA, though not sure anyone here knows of it ) and looking at the photos from last year's festival, they had a face painter there. In the photos the skill level look more advanced than mine and, I cannot help it, I'm kinda nervous about the possibility of having competition I don't know if this person will be there this year, but it seems to be a pretty good bet. I've never painted with more competition than cheerleaders from the local high school painting smiley faces and heart cheek-art. Sooo looking for some encouragement and tips for handling my first event where I'm not the only face painter doing full faces!

Re: Kinda nervous!
Is it an event that really needs two face painters? Not trying to discourage you, I just know that any of the events I've done with more than one face painter ended up sucking for both.
Re: Kinda nervous!
They usually have a huge turn out (8,000 to 10,000), and right now I'm waiting to hear back from the organizers .... I'd like to have the practice anyway, and as long as I make back the cost of the booth spot I'll be happy.
Re: Kinda nervous!
Can you bring glitter tats along too. They are really easy and could help you make more money??
Re: Kinda nervous!
Wow, a chance to meet another face painter. Be sure to introduce yourself to her/him. Use it as a chance to compare prices, and to "work together" so that you are both in a win/win situation. exchange cards and maybe you can get together after to compare notes. (I say this from my perspective, because I like knowing others and making friends.)
And for sure, take glitter tats...Big selling point is that they last about a week, that way you wouldn't be dependent on solely on FP. Great Idea, Metina.
Have a big facepainting sign up that people can see and read from far away.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Re: Kinda nervous!
I've done 4 festivals this fall, all with un-expected "competition" that wasn't there last year (I know because I was the only one the year before). Only one festival I feel I suffered because of another FP painter there. She WAY under priced me, 1 dollar cheek art & 3 dollar full faces...sheesh! I don't do cheek art and my faces are 5 ,7, & 10 (I also had a horrible place...not where I was last year) Here's the thing.....I had a line all day (she did too) and I probably made more money.
If there are supposed to be 10,000 or so that would probably support 2 face painters, unless there is bad weather or if the other is under charging you. If you both set your prices at the same amount, Jenny's right, it will be win-win.
Have Fun! and let us know how you did.....be sure and take your camera! : )

PS, I'm always a tad nervy before any event, I think it's normal. It usually takes me 3-4 faces before I hit my groove!
