Your favourite split cake for butterflies
I'm currently using the TAG neon rainbow for butterflies and I LOVE it because it has so much impact. I like using splits because they blend so easily with a sponge. I want to add a couple more splits to my kit but after looking at the threads on butterflies I'm soooo confused about what to buy. Most of them only have pics and don't say what paints were used
I would love to see some pics of your butterflies and what splits you used for them. I'm mostly interested in TAG and DFX as that's what I have easy access to here in Australia but please feel free to share anything you have.
Hope you guys can help me I would really appreciate it

Re: Your favourite split cake for butterflies
This isn't a full-face butterfly idea, but for a really unusual cheek or otherwise body butterfly, I really liked trying out the Cameleon Colorblock in "Naughty Fairy" recently. The colours are bizarre at first meeting, but work really well for a bit of avant garde:

It's slightly sparkly somehow, in real life. I was surprised it looked so pretty.

Fairy Floss is my favorite. And of course I don't have any pics of it
Re: Your favourite split cake for butterflies
Ooh, and I love DFX Tropical for pretty butterflies! I'm currently experimenting with a slightly more edgy flutterby, and I made this one with DFX Jungle:
Not entirely happy with it - my friend turned up part way through so I rushed to get it finished - but you get the general colour idea.

Re: Your favourite split cake for butterflies
I really love TAG Magnolia, Cocktail, and Unicorn for butterflies.
Usually I will ask what the childs favorite color is, and then pick a split cake with that fave in it. I seem to reach for Magnolia most often, it makes really beautiful butterflies.

Re: Your favourite split cake for butterflies
If you are talking rainbow cakes (for large face butterflies) I agree with Fess. I wish I could find my Havana sample I did.
The carnival cake is now my neon because I found that the regular neon rainbow cakes would get muddy if over blended. The Carnival never fails to be beautiful.
I love the Fairy Garden one that Metina sells but I've switched the lilac and teal so that the lilac is at the end and goes in the corner of the eye (I like lighter colors toward the eye) That's been a popular one towards the end of summer...the glitter looks fantastic on it.
This is a cake called Big Happy Swirl (another shop so you'll have to search that one! ) that is my go-to pearl cake:
My go-to for one-stroke butterflies is now the Frangapani...it looks so good on:

Re: Your favourite split cake for butterflies
Kammy, is that the mini jungle split cake you used? If so, I may have to try that for a butterfly...I usually use it and my mini neon for cheetah eyes. It's simple and girls LOVE it! Here it is in metallics... I really do adore your butterfly though, I hope you don't mind if I try it?

Oh really, you should know by now. Technical questions are great, but ask 10 face painters one opinion question, and you'll get at least 20 different answers.miss D wrote:wow! thanks so much everyone

Re: Your favourite split cake for butterflies
This isn't a butterfly but it could very easily be one. This is Cotton Candy by Silly Farm
Re: Your favourite split cake for butterflies
I LOVE the Tag Gelati for butterflies too, I always suggest it if the child isn't sure what colors they want and it gets the best compliments too, add some fairy dust glitter to it and white dots and the crowds go wild
