Re: Your Business Name?
The way I understand it is if you have certain kinds of businesses, you have to do all of the extra stuff in which you define what kind of corperation you are. I have no employees, no partners, and the business will end if I die, so a sole porpriotorship I am. All I need is a DBA because I didn't name my company Jennifer Baxter Facepainting.
Re: Your Business Name?
Licensing is for if you decide to incorporate, that is becoming a Limited Liability Corporation or other wide spread business set up.
There is also Service Mark licensing that goes with many businesses, which is when you pay to protect your name and logo for businesses like ours that are service based.
You can have a partnership and employees under a DBA in New York State, but I believe that may change based on the location. Every state has different business/incorporation laws, and each county can vary within the state. Just like it varies place to place whether or not face painting is considered a taxable service, etc.
It's a lot of research and sometimes paper work to set up correctly, but it is worth it in the end.

Re: Your Business Name?
Business License and Trade Name Registration are two different things depending on your county/city or COUNTRY lol. Example: I am a sole proprietor so I registered my TRADE NAME at the Circuit Court in Fairfax, VA then got my BUSINESS LICENSE from the gov't center.
Had I wanted to be an LLC or Corp, etc...I would have had to first make sure that my name wasnt taken in the state and applied for an EIN number and applied trough the State Corporation Commission for my biz entity. Then gotten my biz license....
Anyways, As for my name: Heavenly Face Designs, it was between that and sweet & sour faces...I've always had bluangl83 as my screen name in everything, plus I liked my designs for HFD more and liked the meaning, so voila! Heavenly Face Designs. Plus my cuzn made an awesome logo for me.

Re: Your Business Name?
Initially I was Bee Creative! Quality Arts and Crafts by Dana Bee, but that was a bit of a mouthful, so I shortened it to Dana Bee Creative. My stage name as a musician is Dana Bee and it just stuck, and I am a very creative person (if I say so myself ). I changed it in hopes off reaching a wider target audience--not just families with kids, but theater/dance companies, proms/post proms, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, as well as nightclubs and raves!
Re: Your Business Name?
Well, mine is simply EerinArts at the moment. It started as just a name for my work as an artist, then also for illustration work, later on for arts and crafts stuff and in the meantime also for face and bodypainting. Different kinds of art in 'Eerin style' is what it says a bit I guess.
In the beginning I started with one other name before this one, it was a bit more creative. Maybe I will use that again later on but I am not sure. Its not good to change a name too often.

Re: Your Business Name?
Not happy with my name but have stuck with it.
I wanted 'Paint me happy' or 'Colour me happy' but they were taken.
Face Art by Tash is causing problems with all the body painting I do.
I'd like to change it but I'm too far in.
Website, banners, business cards, signs, past clients..... no way to change it now.
I do however like the font and design. Small compensation.

Re: Your Business Name?
Maybe you could just add Face "& Body" Art by Tash? ... slowly put it on your cards and signs and stuff as you get new ones... it's not a drastic change that will make anything look "wrong" but you can gradually make the change?
Re: Your Business Name?
I don't have a company name as I trade on my own name, but my vanity plate is FACEART, my sign says FACE ART... my display has sections for FACE ART and BODY ART... many people think my company name is FACE ART.

Re: Your Business Name?
I contacted my local municipality here in NJ and they told me I did not have to have a business license as I worked from my home..... going out to locations. If I were working in my home (people coming to my house to be painted) then yes I would have to have one. So saved that $50 bucks.
I am thinking about just getting my LLC for the added protection and peace of mind.... and with that I believe, I have to check again to make sure, they register the name. Protects my personal assets should a lawsuit be filed against the business. I as the individual am seen as a separate entity apart from the business.... a claimant could not come after me or my family as a result of an alleged wrongdoing with the business.

Re: Your Business Name?
Hmm, mine is just simply Silly Izzy because my nickname was "Izzy" when I was younger and I wanted something that the kids would like. Now that I think abou it though, I also want it to be appealing to older adults.
Re: Your Business Name?
For Twinkle Tattoos---I wanted to find a word that went with Tattoos that insinuated glitter, shiny, and sparkly...I finally came up with Twinkle Tattoos and it had a great ring to it.
For Da Bounce Party Rentals--all the locals here don't always say "the" instead they say "da" --like if you've ever heard of Da Kine, it basically means the thing or that thing and is used widely on island--so we wanted to be more local with the name.

Re: Your Business Name?
I got mine from baking and finally used it for facepainting thanxs for the advise on Vistaprinting Tell me what you think???
Re: Your Business Name?
I started at Ren Faires doing henna and bellydancing for years so I named my business based on that "Extreme Hareem". Then I started dancing less and decorating more in mediums other than henna so I had to change the name.
I liked the idea of playing with words that showed that the canvas I work on is people and that it's art so after some playing "Artful Body" was born. A google search showed there is a spa somewhere else named Artful Body Spa, so I dropped the spa and kept the name, adding "Lynne's" to the front for official reasons. I haven't looked back since.

Re: Your Business Name?
My initials are BB so I used those and came up with B. Beautiful. I use it for all of the creative services I "sell".
Re: Your Business Name?
I came up with Bumble Bee's... -My nickname when I was little was Mrs. Bee, Bee up until now, so naturally Bumble Bee is just what came to mind. Plus my motto is "creating quite the buzz!"
Re: Your Business Name?
I am now kind of regretting the name "Faces by Gina" because I've started doing glitter tats and belly paining, but oh well. It was just that I went into business from just volunteering and doing my own kid for fun very quickly and couldn't think of a name that fast.
Yah sistah, dat is da kine name.

My business name....
The first name I chose was Dawn's Fancy Faces. I used it for a while and then I decided to add airbrush tattoos to add another dimension to my work and my son was going to help me. Well, he didn't want to paint under Dawn's Fancy Faces so we talked about it and chose Extreme Art. Then he kinda lost interest and so I finally chose the name Razmatattz. Kind of like Razmatazz, but with the tattz to show I did airbrush tattoos. A lot of people called my face painting cheek art tattoos anyway. So that's how I got to be who I am.

Re: Your Business Name?
I thought that having your face painted was fun and a chance to be whatever your heart desires and your imagination can dream up was fantasy, so therefore Fantasy Fun Faces was born.
Re: Your Business Name?
I couldn't think of a name and just thought of what kids usually stick with so I just added a Miss in front of my name. Still don't like it but business started picking up and I just stuck with Miss Tanya's Face Painting since people started recognizing the name.
Re: Your Business Name?
I put it out on Facebook to my friends and family looking for ideas. Our friend Barb came up with Faces to Follow. Her reasoning......if you go to a festival etc and you see someone painted. You "follow" after them to see where they got painted. The only reason they are being followed is because of their face. Faces bring the attention to being followed.
A little abstract but it works okay for now.

Re: Your Business Name?
When my face painting partner and I were trying to think of a name we wanted something that meant 'sparkle' or 'shine', but something that was also unique. I was actually reading the Hunger Games books at the time, and there is a minor character in it named Glimmer, and I looked at it and went "Hmmm... that sounds nice!" We put "face painting and balloons" after it, too. Some people have started calling us the Glimmer Gals or Glimmer Girls, and that's fun too! We love that people like us enough to give us nicknames.
Re: Your Business Name?
I went with Painted Ink.

Re: Your Business Name?
I've had business names in the past that reflected what I was currently into. I get bored doing the same thing, so when I changed interests I'd have to change names...not good.
"Debra Newman Art" will cover anything I ever care to dream up!

Re: Your Business Name?
I started with Whitney Myers Event Services when I was planning event as well. Now it's just Whitney's Bodyart
Re: Your Business Name?
My choice was very practical. I was going to use a storybook theme "Storybook Faces" because I found this really cool castle backdrop (which I've now abandoned...too unwieldy) but then realized it would limit the possibilities of adult parties and plain 'ol painting boys in general.
Coming from other entrepreneurial endeavors, I knew that the name needed to be easy to remember, easy to spell, easy to search and have paint or faces in the title to help catch google searches. Originally I was to be Paint A Party but fortunately (I say that now, at the time I was mad) someone registered it literally two days before me. I had the logo designed and everything. Hubby told me not to give up on it, just change it because it took so long to come up with it in the first place. He suggested Painted Party and it's worked out really well.
I'm glad that we put party in the name because that was the first thing that people were asking at the fair "so...you do parties?" Why yes, yes we do [hand card to potential client].
I did .com searches like crazy, checked the DBA list in the state of Utah, checked similar sounding names to make sure that there weren't unsavory elements attached to it.
Who knows, maybe when I'm older and wrinklier I might be able to sell it as a business. That's a very long way of saying "It was a calculated business decision...that I like...thank you very much."
