Just some observations...
When in a restuarant with your face painted, adults don't make eye contact.
When in a restuarant with your face painted, children stare and quickly move away.
When in a restuarant with your face painted, the workers politely act like there is nothing abnormal about you and prefer to pay attention to the little girl in the princess dress that is in your company.
When in a restuarant with your face painted, the only person that asks you about your face painting has the loudest voice in the room.
LOL

Re: Just some observations...
Thats funny...I get the same thing in the grocery store if I stop in after a gig. Kids always stare but adults just look away, except the cashier who is always so interested in where you have been to get it done, then amazed when they find out you did it yourself..lol
Re: Just some observations...
I paint my balloon twister at festivals, she is my daughter. Went to the cheese cake factory with her painted as a panda. Hardly anybody said anything...utill we were leaving, and a man was walking from the bar to the bathroom, and did a double take...he was loaded, and it was priceless. I am thinking that this would be something fun to do, go into bars, painted as something outragous and pretned you are not!
Re: Just some observations...
Best reactions were riding Skytrain into Vancouver in full Klingon...(going to a ST Convention...) Scared tourists off the train and others wouldn't stop taking our photos.

Had a zombie kiss on yesterday from a jam, turned to let a couple of officers past us while we looked at the wall menu at Cafe Rio..."Whew, I'm glad you're face painters, we were worried for a bit."
And...so EXACTLY LIKE THAT Veelux. Everytime. Other face painters say "just paint your face" and people will ask for your card. Hardly ever happens to me. I must just look crazy.

Perry - LOL I bet that was a fun bus ride!
Shannon - You actually scared people off? Thats too good! Now I know how to get a seat!
Denise - I'm going to go out today after doing an open house for a church and see if I get any different types of reactions while I'm wearing my shirt that announces that I am a face painter. Because NO ONE asked for my card when I went to that restuarant in plain street clothes

Re: Just some observations...
Last time I practiced on my daughter and grandaughter's, they stopped at Target on their way home. I had given her some business cards just in case. Later I asked her what people said (they ALWAYS talk to her otherwise, cause my grandaughter's, 4 and 6, are so cute). She said almost NO ONE acted like they noticed the face painting! Only one or two smiled at the girls, but they avoided HER, lol. So much for my "advertising idea", lol. I like the idea of wearing the face painter shirt with your face painted in public. Think people wouldn't act like you had two heads!
Re: Just some observations...
Oh, my. People overhere are so nosey...they always comment or ask about the facepaint! I have gone out on an emergency trip to the chemist ( not sure if this is the right word : the place you go to buy pills and such) with a full arm and hand painted with swirls and flowers - they just smiled and said "nice flowers"...

LOL I usually go through the drive thru
Today after the party, I went through the drive thru and heard the lady behind the glass door yell out,"What on earth!"

Re: Just some observations...
it was actually one of the quietest bus rides I've ever been on...
Oh and the drive thru is another story altogether!! I went through the McDonald's drive thru one day and the girl at the pick up window literally SCREAMED and walked away. Dude, your MASCOT is a clown!!

Re: Just some observations...
When I was a full face jack-o-lantern as a customer last year I got free candy at Whole Foods. Otherwise, full face designs get me stares and shy smiles from a few people and the rest are pretending you aren't painted.
If I have a butterfly on my face or my relatives' faces, I get inquiries about where it was done.
If I have some body art, like a painted design on my arm or some freehand glitter tattoos, I get inquiries. I did get someone to ask me for a business card based on a freehand glitter tat and I was looking disheveled so I was embarrassed.
In conclusion, I think the body art gets more positive attention than face designs. I live in the burbs and people aren't as friendly as they are north of here. People just don't go up to people in general as I've seen in my hometown an hour north of here.

LOL At Perry!
That reminds me of a scary story....I was coming home from clowning and it was a horrible storm with tornadoes in the area. I was starving so I had to go through the McDonalds drive thru. It started hailing! Ack! I thought, I was going to have to walk in to take cover in my clown costume and possible die in Mikey D's! What a way to go!

Re: Just some observations...
well.... bad things had happened with adults wearing masks or face painting.
The only good thing happen to me when face painted is getting my way in a 4 ways STOP sign, I always go first while the others staring at me.

Re: Just some observations...
I live on a very busy street with a stop light right outside my house. Friday I am trying to put my 2 and 4 year old in my car with full face and neck painting as a green skull with lots of blood. Of course my kids could care less, but besides meeting my brand new neighbors in that 5 minutes, there was also a slight fender bender. Nothing serious....just "rubberneckers" forgetting to stop and tapping the car in front. The people in front, didnt even care because they too were staring. Then off they all drove off.
How I love my job

Re: Just some observations...
This is so funny!!! I have went places and botten both reactions. Men will say somethng before women. I jus say Ia heded to a gig and sometimes give a card.
Re: Just some observations...
Only one time I had a gas station attendant become completely infatuated with me while I had my face painted. He kept asking me how I did it, telling me it was beautiful, and flirting with me so much it was making me nervous..then he said very excitely " I just wanted to kiss you" with this huge smile...I laughed and got out of there pretty quick, but it was very strange because he was about 19 and I was about 47 at the time. I guess he likes older ladies with daisy chains painted on their face...lol
Re: Just some observations...
that is awesome---I love reading peoples reactions
I have only gone out in public once (to return movies I forgot were due)---I live in a small town where everyone waves when you drive by---but people were staring and didn't wave.
At the video store (the ladies that work there wanted to see some of my face painting) I went in. The kids stared and qucikly went to their parents ---I was in my sugar skull face---
woman looked at me through the corner of their eye, the men just stared, and I could help but smile. It was fun!
