Nervous... my accountant asked for a meeting Empty Nervous... my accountant asked for a meeting

Post by Tineke Fri Aug 31, 2012 6:35 am

So, I've been feeling a bit nervous lately, since my accountant called and asked to meet me, to discuss how business is going...
Now I'm imagining all different scenarios in which she (the accountant) will make it clear that I don't have a sence for business, or will laugh at me, or will say I'm overpriced, or that I'm spending too much money...
I've been a pro. painter for around 8-9 years now, and have switched accountants about a year ago, but this is the first time an accountant really asked for a meeting, I usually just drop off my invoices every 3 months and that's it...

Any of you ever have been asked to meet with your accountants??? I feel like the principal called me in his office Suspect

I do my own records in excel and just send them to my tax guy at the end of the year, last year was my first and I was kind of disappointed when he said I don't have a business but I hobby cause I expend to much money.

I just give my accountant all my records and reports at year end. In between unless something comes up, I don't here from him. Maybe there was something new to tell you about tax laws or something and you need to keep records differently?

Is he single? Are you single?...Just kidding around__ Maybe he'd like to learn to paint (accounting is not really that fun, after all--otherwise we'd all be accountants rather than painters, right?)

The accountant works for YOU, not the other way around. You are the BOSS! If anyone should be nervous it should be the accountant. If you don't like their style, drop them and get another one.

I am impressed that your accountant wants to meet with you--most of them I know don't care as long as everything is legal. He/she might just have some insights for you. If he tells you you spend to much money then shake it off (Unless you are in debt) Smile Don't borrow trouble. I worked with one accountant that liked to meet every 6 months to just make sure we were on the same page- and to let me know of any new tax breaks or anything like that--

Turns out the accountant justed wanted to make sure we're on the same page, and to look over the numbers.
She found out I've been misinformed by my previous accountant, and have to get some things straight, and she adviced me to raise my prices and transportfee.

Yay! There's a good excuse to raise prices, "My accountant told me to do it!"
