How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
I currently apply glitter with my fingertip, but sometimes it covers up paint details. How do poofer bottles work? Does it glitter just the area you point the tip at? Or does it do a poof of glitter all over the whole face. Does it use up the glitter fast, or doesw it make the glitter go further? When you're at your table, poofing over & over, do you find it flies through the air and gets into your paints on the table? I'm thinking of trying a bottle. Thanks for any help
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
If you can't see the design through the glitter, you might have opaque glitter which is not very see-through. There are other glitters to try like Mama Clown's trasnparent glitter. That being said, most poofers only use the white glitter.
I use both techniques when I paint (finger and poofer). You can direct the glitter with the poofer, but it usually ends up being an overall effect. It is quick, but messy. I doubt it would fly far enough to end up in your paints. Just make sure to tell the kiddos to close their eyes.
Try it!

I do use the poofers, with the shimmery glitters. If I want to use opaque colors I use a damp brush to pick it up and apply where I want it to go.
With practice you can learn to control the poofer quite well so glitter doesn't go everywhere.

I love the poofer and use only it at gigs. It covers the whole base with shimmer then I add lines on top. All I use is white transparent. It looks good on every color and is cheaper since I'm not buying several colors all the time. It is a lot faster than any of the other techniques I've tried.

i use a lollipop to apply glitter when i just need it on a small area like a rose or something. Works well for me instead of my fingertip.

I use my finger or wet the back of the brush and dip in glitter, then apply sideways on the face. I can't never get the proofing right, I either don't poof enough or I poof way too much lol
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
I use the white fairy dust or iridescent from fpf it is transparant and the designs show thru. If u have a good poorer bottle you can either "poof" or do closer with tiny pressure and just poof in spots you want
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
Pinkundies, that's the one I use and I love it, looks great with every color.
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
Poof iridescent white... love poofing!
(I also have iridescent yellow and an iridescent pink that I use sometimes and also love very very much - in the future, however, I will probably only buy iridescent white."

Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
Hands up for the iridescent white here too. I have a whole bunch of glitter colours but I only use white and bright pink for facepainting. I use my fingers still. I've only tried a poofer once and it was such a disaster I was put off using them! Glittersplosion!
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
White iridescent here too, although I did buy red for noses on characters, hearts, etc. I use both, and when I want it directly on something, like a line, I use a wet brush dipped in glitter...
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
I think as long as it's not opaque you can use your finger. That's how I use it.
Question for everyone though. Which brand of fairy dust glitter is best? I love Paradise's Opalescent White, but it such a litte bottle, so I tried Mama Clown's Fairy Dust and for some reason I feel the glitter on my skin and it seems to gather more in certain spots.....maybe it's just me? With Paradise I don't feel the glitter on me and it seems to go on more evenly. Does anyone recommend any other brands?

Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
I switched to a poofer recently... and I looove it!
I find the glitter lasts way way longer. The poofer adds a sparkle to the whole face, and is definitely less "concentrated" than applying glitter with a finger or brush.
I like the overall sparkly look. I have a white iridescent poofer and a pink one. I use the white way more than pink!

Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
I bought Metina's 1oz white iridescent glitter when I first started and I'm still using it two years later in a poof bottle. It's my base glitter. If I'm doing fast faces - it's great and goes with pretty much any design.
If I'm using my glitter palette from Glimmer, I use a brush or finger to apply. I use that primarily to add spots of tone-on-tone glitter over face paint, Pashur or Mark Reid style. It's also the same palette I use for my glitter tattoos, and I apply the glitter with brushes to the glue.
I find that it does get into my paint somewhat. I live with it.

I tried Mama Clown but didn't like it... went back to Metina's white iridescent
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
Started out w/Mama Clown's in a little screw top jar. Got some poofers but couldn't get the hang of it @ 1st. Used to keep the jar open but all it took was one small kid & one BIG bump & glitter spilled over. Ya just can't be screwing & unscrewing that jar w/long lines. Another problem was seeing my fingerprint on my design! Now I use poofers for almost everything. After seeing Pashur, I did pick up a pink & a blue poofer but white poofer is what makes my faces shine & moves my line! Three things to remember:
1- glitter tattoos use/need opaque glitter but for your face paint you want the translucent so your paint will be seen. I have BOTH in hot pink, so marked the bottom of my Glitter Tatt bottle "GT" in marker.
2- You WILL get used to the poofer & have better control.
3- As I frequently tell my little clients..."A girl can never have enough glitter!"
PS: Little or no glitter on my paints, as long as your glitter tatts are about a foot away.

I use poofer too, mostly irridescent or silver...just make sure they close eyes and mouth first...it works quite well and doesn't waste much.
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
Thanks so much everyone! I never even realized, in that fine glitter, that some are opaque and others aren't! I dab with my finger, but will be trying a poofer bottle to see how I like it...it's seems to be getting mixed reviews!!!!

Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
Here's a couple more poofer questions, then. You know, for if I were to get over my poofer-aversion and try again...
By the time I finish detailing, usually all the base coat is dry. How do you get glitter to stick without tapping it on? Do you poof on the glitter after basecoating? Does that cause any problems with the outlining and detailing?

I use a poofer with white irridescent 95% of the time. I like the overall shimmer effect. Sometimes I will add an extra poof over the heads of the princesses. I inwardly giggle over the ooohs and awws from the parents behind me.

Love that idea of poofing over their hair too! Thanks for that tip!
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
I've seen some FP'ers poofing glitter BEFORE detailing but not me. Guess I work quick enough now that it's still damp?
Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
I poof the base with iridescent white. Especially with the heat lately, everything dries so fast.
I also LOVE iridescent lime green for mermaids, snakes and dragons!

Re: How many people use poofers to glitter their faces?
It depends on the design and the venue but most of the time I poof on iridescent glitter. It's much faster. If the design is dry by the end and I haven't put any glitter in the process, I'll spray a bit of water on the face to make it stick but I always warn them first. I've gotten into the habit of having them tip their head up and close their eyes to poof glitter. That way it falls on the surface of the face more than if the face is vertical. Yes, it does sometimes get in the paints and on me, but it doesn't really matter. It's not too glittery for the next kid even if that kid is a boy.
