Starting a Guild? Empty Starting a Guild?

Post by Lady Jayde Mon Oct 05, 2009 12:19 pm

I don't know if this is the right place or not, but I need info on how to start a Face painter's guild here in NE Ohio (the land of the forgotten, lol). Does anyone know anything about this? Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks in advance.

I hope you can get it started. I just attended the first meeting of the NYFABAG and it was awesome! I am so glad we are getting a guild, and wish I could advise you on HOW to do it...all I really can offer is crossing my fingers that you are able to get into or even start a guild. GOOD LUCK!

3-4 hour trek for me,so it's pretty much useless to those of us way up here on Lake Erie...it would almost be faster to rent a boat and find a Canadian guild. We need a NE Ohio Guild badly.

Lurking for ideas...I would love to organize something like this in VT. Smile

I don't know if it appeals to you LJ, but I am also thinking about just using meetup.com to start a jam (I have joined & started several groups that were successful this way previously)

Can you tell me the difference between a 'guild' and a 'jam'? Is there a difference?

I think a guild would be a semi private organization devoted to the education and art of face painting. Probably would cost money to join. A jam would be more for fun IMHO.. I think you can just look at the ones established and kind of follow their guidelines.

Thank you for clarifying that. That makes sense. I did look at the list on Snazaroo and it seemed like some were more organized than others, but some looked like regular jams.

I monitor a face painting jam in SE Michigan. We have instructors on occasion and I was undecided about which way to go with it.

I think I'll stick with the jam format.
