I think a lot of us have no real education in art. I had a few classes, but no formal degree. There is a thread on here somewhere about how we started and what kind of art background we have. There's also another one where we shared some of our first photos. Don't get discouraged, we all started somewhere.

I know how you feel..I started fping just over a year ago and I felt the same, I always had a passion for art but didnt have the maturity to finish something if it did'nt look perfect.never took art at school..but was always in to arts and crafts. However after having children and encouraging them to keep going with their own projects..I started being a bit more gentle with myself and taking the advice I was giving them. lol. As soon as I tried facepainting with REAL paint I fell in love with the art form. I have since dedicated myself to growing as an artist and that only happens by making lots of mistakes and picking up new techniques and practising. I was really inspired when I bought Mark Reids fantasy tiger book and on the front inside cover he has a pic of his first tiger,,,I thought WOW he too had to work on it...Whitneys right there is a good thread on this somewhere,,have a look through the search box...cant think what the title were...We are all in the same boat!

Totally agree, I sometimes think my admired and beloved pros on the forum were born holding a brush and painting awesome faces. That's why I LOVED reading threads like these: http://www.facepaintforum.com/t201-post-your-first-picture?highlight=picture

I seem to manage to embarrass myself every day...try or not!

I've only been painting a little over a year and being here and taking classes and watching a LOT of online stuff (and you have to try it too) has really helped me leaps and bounds. My favorite trick is to take a painter I REALLY like and try and imitate their stuff. It's never quite as good yet, but it elevates your painting.

Good luck! The fact that your humbled shows that you want to succeed. Smile

I don't know if I want to embarrass myself that much! LOL

OK - here is some early painting - mind you, I had 50 kids to paint, I did not do all of these faces, we were using Kryolan, but - with very minimal tools AND all this makeup was done in around 30 minutes - we were SLAPPING it on faces.

Here is summer of 2010 - I looked at CATS cosplay sites for inspiration~

More - now, I'm not even going to post the REALLY embarrassing stuff. Just know, I was giving it away free - done at the request of another volunteer - AND, I was doing all of this w/no studying and no inspiration art. LOL

Back than I had no access to a computer or even knew of any other face painters...lol! The face painting world was very different back then I love the fact that now we can all share & learn from each other. Every day now is a new adventure! Enjoy & welcome !

Sure, why not? I cannot find a current butterfly pic, clearly I haven't been taking enough pictures lately. So, here is my first ever facepaint, a butterfly. I was so proud of it at the time. Very Happy

Post by Jody Rife Wed Aug 01, 2012 8:23 am

I had posted one of my firsts on the other thread but my tru firsts are the ones I wish I had photos of! I am going to ask the parents if they have any. The first time I face painted was at a church down the road for vbs. I used cheap halloween makeup some in crayon form. It was hot and the things were falling apart as I painted. That was about 3 years ago? maybe a little longer. They all looked soooo crazy! But they loved it,LOL

Thank the Lord for this forum and all of you great peoples here that have shared so freely with me ,helping me get better.

I haven't had any art training other than a wonderful art teacher in hs and an artistic father. Of course now as a face painter,I have taken 2 Pashur workshops that were also extremely helpful. Smile

Care to embarrass your self? P7300410Care to embarrass your self? P7300410My first time ever I was on tv to boot that was intense I had lots of time to paint the faces though and then they were talked about as I painted the interviewer right there live as he asked me about my work.

I have been an artist for over 25 years, I was 5 years old and I was laready entering art contests and what nots. A canvas painter for 20 years, sculptor, sketch artist, watercolor anything and everything I have done it but only discovered face painting only 7 years ago and love it more than anything. I love anything that involves a brush. If I knew how to posts pics I would of my firsts.
