yeah, that's a pretty wide open question... there are plenty of business classes available at your local college if you really want the nuts and bolts of owning a small business, but I doubt if you'd need all that much...

About 10 years ago I went to a one day free seminar at the Ft. Worth Women's Business Center. It was somewhat helpful. And a couple of years ago I went to a tax seminar for artists, it was very helpful.
The first one was free, and did go through the details of registering my business name, but the bulk of it was about applying for business loans, writing a business plan and such.
The second was run by a local artist co-op gallery and cost $10. It talked about what is and isn't considered a business expense and why.
I would check your area to see if there are similar resources in your area for free or cheap. Arts organizations (not the little old ladies getting together to show off their landscape sorts, but the semi-professional artist or crafter sort) are a great resource for learning about the business end of running a creative business. And many of the same day to day things face painters need to know, artists and crafters that do the big festivals also deal with. Another resource that is helpful with the business end of things, if you are doing festivals and fairs, is a magazine called Sunshine Artist.
