Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
Hi all.
Is there anyone who makes their own stencils that has found transfer tape like the one that glimmer or faketoos use?
The transfer tape I use is not clear and it is a little too sticky; it makes it rather hard to peel off when I am applying the tattoos.
Any help is appreciated!!

Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
I was amazed when I saw this, I wondered the same thing! I am sure they use a low or medium tack transfer tape. Look up clear choice, I think that's it maybe?.

Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
I found some on ebay that I am going to give a try. Ill let you know how it works. I get mine from sign supply now, but not the clear kind. It is more like masking tape. I find that it is just too good at holding the stencil and doesn't always peel off as easy or as fast as Glimmer's or Faketoos. Its good and it works, Im just looking for a way to speed up my lines.
Hopefully this new kind will work.

Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
Not sure what Glimmer uses, signwarehouse.com.... I use avery or 3M vinyl and Clear Choice for the transfer tape. Also get a squeege and a weeding pen. I also order from Fellers in Austin. Ask for a catalog. Transfer tape comes in low and medium tack. I Personally dont like

Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
Oops, i mean i personally dont like the masking tape one because its not clear to see that tge stencil is coming off right. Its just me also and this is a personal thing, on small simple stencils, transfer tape is not necessary. For example a butterfly silhouette with no floaties or those small unattached vinyl pieces. Just peel them off and stick on the skin.

LUCKY YOU!
I purchased the tape from ebay and it is awful! It is super tacky – can barely peel it from the roll, let alone from the stencils. If anyone is in the market for a 300’ roll of super tacky tape, let me know!
I’ve wasted a lot of time and money looking for good transfer tape. Then I did some extensive research. I called all around the country, talked to dozens of sales reps at dozens of companies and finally reached a super great guy who helped me find what I was looking for, even though it isn’t a product his company carries! (Insert Hallelujah chorus here) He sent me straight to the manufacturer (also super nice guy) who sent me a generous sample that I have been testing for the past month. I’ve made over 2,000 stencils and have been very, very pleased. My daughter, Rhea, has also been testing it and is very pleased.
I am able to lay it down on my stencil sheet and peel it up and reposition it without any issues whatsoever. I can reposition or reuse it numerous times if I need to. It peels off the roll like a dream. It lays flat when I unroll it. It’s not too thin, not too thick. I LOVE IT!
Here’s the deal. The manufacturer only sells it in 48” rolls. It’s used for large commercial projects. However, he was willing to custom cut it into 12” rolls IF the distributor would be willing to carry it. I told them both that there are others in the industry struggling to find this elusive miracle transfer tape and that I would spread the word. [b]The distributor is not planning on carrying it in regular inventory unless the demand for it warrants it, BUT he is willing to custom order it for us IF we make the minimum purchase requirement, which is equal to one 48” roll, which for us means 4-12"x300' rolls for $136.16, delivered price. That’s only $34.04 per roll!
Here’s the contact information to place an order for this miracle tape:

Now, considering that 1200’ is a LOT of transfer tape (that’s equal to 600 24” tat sheets, right?) and that would be like a life-time supply for a lot of us, it may be something we’d want to go in on together.
I placed an order on August 16th. I was going to wait until the order came and I had a chance to MAKE SURE it’s the same stuff before posting this info on here, but… I’m confident. The sample was labeled with my company name, product id#, etc. The order I placed matches the product id# and so, I don’t think there will be a mix-up.
I’ve already sold one roll – at cost, plus actual shipping/handling. Willing to sell 2 more rolls for the same, $34.04 plus S/H.
Let me know if you’re interested. I can send it out after I receive it, weigh it, package it, and know where it’s going, so I can calculate the actual shipping cost and get your payment before I send it.
Message me if you want to buy a roll off of me. One per person, so at least two more people can test it out and help spread the word. First come, first served

Yes, that is it! I'm so glad they decided to carry it. I had to buy 4 rolls of it to get the ball rolling, so I've got a lifetime supply. It took weeks to get it set up and get the first shipment, but now they have it in stock. So, YAY!
Please note that it is NOT the really thin stuff that Glimmer uses. However, it is LOW TACK and works like a charm for my tat stencils and other projects. If you happen to stick it down sideways or get bubbles in it, you can peel it up and put it back down numerous times without causing any damage to your stencils or losing stickability. It's not completely transparent, meaning that it has a slight "matte" finish, but clear enough that I use it to "laminate" signs for my booth, as well as photos. I love it.
Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
Oh wow too funny. I was just at a sign warehouse looking thru their catalogs for transfer tape. They didnt have what I was looking for and came home to order some.. Thank you Manja and Catz!!! and FAce paint Forum!!
Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
I have this kind, but it's still a little too sticky. I've sent an email to Les to see if his is the same or not.

I don't think it's the same, or else it wouldn't be "too sticky". Nobody else carries this same product in 12" rolls. Here's the scoop:
I called all around the country to find the stuff Glimmer uses. I had dozens of samples sent to me from numerous companies. This after spending way too much money on so-called "low tack" application tapes that were not what I would classify as workable for our purposes.
I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of companies. The product line that seemed to be what I was looking for is called DigiWrap. LES connected me with one of the head honchos of the manufacturing company that makes Digiwrap. It is used in commercial applications on large-scale projects and the smallest it came in was 4 foot wide rolls. I explained my needs and that there are a bunch of us out here looking for the same solution. I promised him that if he could produce 12" wide rolls of the application tape we needed, I would pass the word along and it would likely open a new market for them.
He sent me a generous sample of the product and I tested it for a month. It was so liberating to finally find a tape that I could WORK with. YAY! Les promised that if I bought a minimum of 4 rolls to get the ball rolling and get it into their "system", he would make sure that they would carry it for us.
Les is a good business man who cares about meeting the needs of his customers. It's set at a very fair price and definitely worth a try. I hope that you all give it a try and that you are as happy with it as I am. As I said, I'm finding other uses for it as well. I'm anxious to hear what others think of it, so please report back!
Meanwhile... prior to finding this wonderful stuff, I bought a number of rolls from various sources. All said, "Low to Medium Tack". As a result, I have an un-used 12" x 300' roll of SUPER TACKY transfer tape for sale.... eh, hem. I'm sure it's good for something. It's got the stickiness of duct-tape X 5. Problem is, I can't even get the tape to come off the roll!! Not even kidding.
Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
The digiwrap is it the polypropolene? my sign company sells it but only in 40 inch widths.. Its for wrapping cars so low tack.. I just cut some stencils, havent tried my new sample from another sign/banner company yet.. Its transferlite. Do not get the Presto 2.. Way too tacky!! I have over 3/4 of a roll left so about 200+ feet by 12 inches..
Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
Thanks for all your research Manja!
I have a 100 yard roll of too sticky tape too ... I sure appreciate you finding and championing a product that works for us

Win-Win, but I must admit that I did it for purely selfish reasons.
Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
Sorry for the delay, I havent been on here lately.
Here is the link:

It is amazing!!! I have had no problems with it at all. It makes it much easier to put the tattoos on in a timely manner. The masking tape type transfer tape is horrible and it takes too much time. I like this size because my sheets for the Silhouette machine are 12", so I dont waste any extra transfer tape. And there is so much in the roll it lasts me forever. I definitely recommend it. Im sure that there are similar brands out there that work just as well, I just like this one. They ship very fast and it is very affordable.

Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
Sorry to differ with you, glitterfairy, but I followed your advice on this thread a couple of months ago and bought this exact item from the same ebay seller and it is AWFUL. That is the stuff I've been saying is so tacky I can barely peel it off the roll and there is no way I can use it to make stencils with. So, I would NOT recommend this product or this ebay seller. Don't know if I just got a lemon or what. Do know that I have no grounds to return it so I'm stuck with a roll of tape I can see no use for.
Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
I think the question behind the differences of experiences with the same transfer tape is "What is the finish of your stencil?
It's been my experinece that high tack tranfer tape works best with matte stencil vinyl (probably due to the more difficulty involved in adhearing to a matte surface). Likewise, low tack transfer tape works excellently with glossy vinyl again.. surface adhesion.
I don't know if this will help, but maybe if some of you have glossy vinyl and high tack transfer tape, you can trade with those who have matte vinyl and low tack tranfer tape?

Re: Looking for clear transfer tape like glimmer!
I have this in the 803 instead of the 805 ,if anyone wants some I will gladly sell mine. Its sooo tacky tears my stencils and like I said I have about 200+ feet left. It also rips the poor hair of some of the children.. I probably have about 200 stencils make with that and will have to use them up, but all I can say is buyer beware ... Now this is onlly my expirience with the Presto 2. oh I an used it on both matte and glossy vinyl.
