Kryolan UV paints..
Hi everyone,
With Halloween coming (again), I'm thinking about buying a set of the Kryolan UV paints. I've got two questions.
1. I have a set of Wolf Neon paints. I tested them for UV reaction when I bought them (two years ago). I think only the yellow and orange "reacted" to the UV lights and only barely. Is the Kryolan better/worse?
2. Does the "UV" component in the paints have a shelf life? Like if I spend a bunch of $$ on a new set of paints, they'll only be good for a single Halloween...
Any help appreciated.
Mike

My experience with the Wolfe UV was that they are amazing...? I have used them for theatre several times and it is stunning - we had large baffles with multiple black light tubes fixed in though. Maybe your lighting wasn't intense enough to get the paints reacting?
I tried putting a cheap black light bulb in my bathroom fixture to get some photos but there was not enough "light" to get a proper glow going.
The paints need to "charge up" in manner of speaking - they need to be in strong UV/black lights to get the molecules excited which is what generates the glow.
I've used both Wolfe and Fardel UV paints at night clubs and they are pretty impressive.
I've had some of my UV Wolfe for 3, possibly 4 years, and they still react.
I haven't actually tried the Kryolan cake UV yet... might pick-up some this weekend in when I am in San Francisco.

I'll try the Wolf bro's again. Of course I'm out of the yellow, and it's been out of stock for sometime now. I'll probably order the yellow kryolan or maybe the diamond fx, I've been reading about.
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
The DFX works well - I have a cake of the White UV and you can't control it!! and the glow lasts after washing too.

The Kryolan UV is good too. I especially like the liquid ones =)
Else I use the Wolfe or Diamond UV.

Re: Kryolan UV paints..
I used the Kryolan UV's last year at our Halloween gig and we had two large black light tubes in our booth... paintings glowed real good. Sounds like the Wolfe may be just a tad better though.
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
I use the Wolfe UVs and they are awesome!! I'm not sure that you have a strong enough black light to get a reaction.... They have great control, and though they look a little transparent in the regular light, under a good black light they are INTENSE...
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
Heres a couple pics using the Kryolan UV's and how they look in and out of black light...pics are not the greatest. The paints look cool in person.
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
I use the Kryolan UV and I love them! I used them for a Mardi Gras streat fair this last weekend and had black lights in the tent they react well even in week black lights. I like the Wolfe UV too they work well but I had found the stronger the light the better they react. I think you will do good with either.
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
do you guys sponge them on? I've got the kryolan but struggle to get a consistency that looks as good as that with a brush... also do you buff it off as per the instructions?
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
there are instructions?
I have some Kryolan UV but haven't really had a chance to use them.... in regular lights, they are kind of translucent as was mentioned, so I don't use them in normal situations and I haven't had the opportunity to paint in a black light situation.

I use my UVs as a base.. I love the UV yellow as a base for stuff... they work just the same as regular paints... you just need a black light to make the actual glow happen.
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
I have the wolfe neon rainbow cake & I sometimes sponge & sometimes arty brush them on. They're pretty bold both ways. I've never seen them glow, but I always tell the kids they glow under black light. I'm sure this has sent them on a dollar store run more than once.
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
yea - i've got the palette and it says it needs to be gently rubbed with a soft cloth or hand.
ahhh I see, i've been following the directions from others on the net - suggesting not to use much water at all... looks like i need to add more water to get it translucent some people seem to think that's not the way to use it, but their way isn't working very well for me

Re: Kryolan UV paints..
Just want to clarify is it Wolfe Neon and Kryolan DayGlow paints that react under black lights or are they called something else?
Re: Kryolan UV paints..
Hi folks,
I ended up using the Kryolan UV paints for that Halloween gig. Everything worked great. However, the left over paint seems really dry and every time I try sponge it on I get terrible coverage. Not at all like when the cake was brand-new.
Do you guys think a little glycerin in the cake would bring back it's consistency?
Mike
PS. FABAIC was a good time.

Re: Kryolan UV paints..
To bring the Kryolan back to it's original consistency- use a little glycerin. I mix the Glycerin with water, 1 part glycerin to 10 parts water and let it soak it overnight.
It works for me!
