Starblends Are Here! Empty Starblends Are Here!

Post by Denise Cold Thu Mar 29, 2012 3:26 pm

Well, I got my Starblends! I'm so excited to use them because I love how they feel on my face and the coverage is good. I'm definitely going to get some puffs like Suzy suggested so that it will go on very softly and quickly.

Another little benefit that I didn't know about is how forgiving they are. My nose started to run a bit after I got my tiger painted on and I was able to dab my nose without the white coming right off. Then later I dribbled a little water on my chin trying to get a drink without ruining my lips and the water went OVER the white instead of activating it so it was barely noticeable.

I used my lollipops and I could do a whole section if I loaded both sides. I like how I could blend the orange and yellow and get a blend like a sponge. The only place I had a hard time with coverage was the end of my nose, maybe because it's smoother than the rest of my face??

Overall, I'm very happy and ready to try all sorts of new designs with these and my new one-strokes.

D.

That is a great starblend tiger!

I got my first starblend through the swap shop to try them out, and I am hooked. I will probably have to order more pretty soon.

You kind of need to rub the top like you were going to paint. It's been about 12 hours and the top half of my face looks fabulous. I made a mess out of the black around my mouth though.... Smile

Now we'll have to see if they work on a sweaty kid!

D.

PS: I just realized this might sound like I added water...I didn't. I just meant I rubbed the lollipop sponge around.

I love starblends! I'm thinking people that don't like them, don't rub into the cakes really well. I do both sides of the smoothie really well and then go to the face. Most of the time, i don't have to reload unless it's an adult Hello Kitty face.

Starblends are a "name" for the Mehron's pressed powders. They are matte powders that you can use instead of face paint. Some people love them, some people dislike them, some of us haven't tried them (myself in category). I did make myself a pressed shimmer powder palette for eye designs (but that is a whole different thread)

They are HUGE eye shadows or colored foundation powders. Those that live in humid climates can use them when other face paints would sweat right off the face. I'm using them (even though I live in a fairly dry area) because I think the powders are more comfortable around the eyes so I'll combine them with paints and one-stroke. I just did the tiger to show that you could do a whole design with them. I did like it though. I hardly felt the powders and kept them on the whole day. I haven't tried them in the "real world" of a fair yet but others have and swear by them.

They are what used to be (and still is!) called "pancake" make-up. Water activated foundations. Mehron has made them in a wide selection of colours from traditional foundation shades through all the "fantasy" colours. I use them as foundations when at theatre, particularly for "changing" skin tone/ethnicity for a play. I use them wet. I tried the dry application but did not like it. It wasn't opaque enough for my tastes (but Denise's tiger sure works!)

Theoretically ANY pressed powder, from blushes to eye shadows, can be used this way....

I was always loading my smoothie blender by going in a circular motion.... but this weekend I didn't do it that way; I loaded it as if I was loading regular paint on a regular brush, both sides. Lo and behold! It does make a difference. The Starblends go on so much more opaque that way.

I haven't field tested mine and I live in a pretty dry state but what I've heard is that sweat can make them splotchy but the alternative is the paint dripping off your face. Someone said they have a roll of paper towels and give each kid one to wipe their faces off so at least they are dry to begin with.

I used lollipop sponge applicators. I think Metina is going to have them soon. Suzy uses powder applicators (there's a whole Starblend thread somewhere with more designs) and they hold a lot of powder so that would be great for skulls and overall designs. You can also use those smoothie blenders (I think someone said Michael's carries them now) but they are about $5.00.

I did a youtube video. The tiger didn't turn out as good as mine because I was doing it from an angle and trying different applicators but you get the idea. I think you'd almost have to have them in a really hot area. The only color I've heard that disappoints is purple but I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure...but I think I might all the colors before summer is over.

Here's a thread with a lot of info about Starblends and lots of designs:

Here's the thread where Suzy has pictures of the puffs she uses:

Yes Becky, that is my sweetheart Emma. Don't tell her but I love her TOO much, kind of that scary love where you don't want them to walk out the door...but I have to restrain myself. Smile I'm dreading her going to college and dating for real this Fall.
