Can I pick your brains about Movie Theater gigs?

I want to approach the local movie theater about face painting for movie openings. The latest installment of Twilight is coming out soon as well as The Muppets and Happy Feet.
How do you all handle movie theater gigs? Do you ask for permission to set up and then charge per face or do you have the movie theater pay you your hourly rate?
Have you all found the movie openings to be lucrative or was it more trouble than it's worth?

I've been hired by corporate headquarters to work at the local theatre, at my hourly rate. The last time the local manager called to book me, and the bill went to corporate.

It was for their Community Days though, not an opening.

In this town openings of movies are non-events.... a BUSY film might have a half full house... so I don't think they do anything for openings of new shows.

I approached my local theater for Twilight. They are exspecting over 2300 people for just the 1st two days (Midnight showing and friday)

I will be doing exclusive glitter tattoos, no face painting. They stated that is it PPF rather then hourly though, but I am too excited to care. I'm a TwiHARD!

You usually need to go through corporate. My daughter's worked for AMC since she was old enough to work & I still can't get in with them(but... I also won't do it for free...).

I recently painted at a Community Day at our cinema. It was pretty fun! I got paid in 13 free movie passes. 13 passes = $130ish, so for about 2 hours of work it was pretty good pay! Now I just need to get my butt out of the house to go see some movies...

It was the same event I worked - Community Day - but depending on the market and the individual painter's negotiating skills... some got passes only, some got partial pay + passes up to a 50/50 split ... and some of us got paid.

I am currently working on an email to a local theater company (which is totally frying my brain to be professional and make it the best situation for both of us!) and then I'm going to call the corporate office of another theater.
Because, darn it, I AM going to do glitter tattoos at breaking dawn!!!

Haha. I did a split, but I also had 2 people go out. Even those were different since the theatres charge differently. BUT my contractor was happy to get paid in a split, and now I have stocking stuffers for everyone!

In my area there is a "Twifest" at the major theaters. They basically have vendor booths. You might be a little bit late getting in on that action though, ladies. Never hurts to try! I would actually just call and talk to the event coordinator to see if there is an opening. FYI... I did facepainting at the Twifest and it was a total bust. My friend was there doing glitter tattoos and those appeal to adults much more. "team jacob"... ect. I would lean toward that. Kids show openings might be good for facepainting, but most people don't want facepaint at adult premiers.

I just made my Team Jacob, Team Edward, Twilight, Breaking Dawn, "My Boyfriend Sparkles" glitter tatts. I think I need "I drive like a Cullen", Wolf Girl, Vamp Girl, and the Wolves Tribal tattoo, too.

I make my own so makes it easy.

I too did a community event at a movie theater for four hours.

They said that because it was a fundraiser for a charity all money was going to them, so they paid me in movie passes instead - I got about $250.00 in free passes (25 of them) but I did get $40 in actual gas money.

Unfortunately when they booked they'd called me about an hour before my local theater so I had to travel 45mins. to theirs... after the event they claimed me again for next year, but I'm thinking I'll give first dibs to the locals next time

manabanana... I cleaned up a wolfpac tribal tat. Took me a while cause I wanted it to work well for vinyl. I make my own too. If you want to try it... it's a LOT of work to apply but it looks great on.

Let me know if you need "Bite me" or "my boyfriend sparkles"... "wolfgirl", "Vampiregirl"... ect. I also did a pretty rad Cullen Crest. Again.. a lot of work to apply but looks fabulous.

My most popular tattoo has been "bite me". Hands down. I do 3 of those for every other twilight tat I do... even throughout the year. Also.. "I run with Wolves" and "My boyfriend Sparkles". Good luck!
