Will there be any conventions in the midwest
just wondering if there will be any conventions in the midwest 2011
Re: Will there be any conventions in the midwest
Not really. There's the Midwest Haunter's Convention in Columbus Ohio. Last year, it was the weekend after FABAIC. It's mostly vendors for haunted houses, but they do face/body art and contest. Wolfe bros were there. More scary stuff, obviously.
Here's a pretty basic listing http://www.face-painting-fun.com/face-painting-convention.html
Sometimes you can catch a touring instructor like Marcela Murad or Pashur.

Marcella's class was great. She is supposed to come back to Chicago at some point and do a flower class.

I would come to Chi-town for that & I have a van & a Marriot property discount!

In response to conventions in the midwest in 2011...
In October, the Midwest Clown association convention will be in LaPorte, IN at the Best Western (same place as last year, and my home town ) There are always at least a few face painting classes, and plenty of venders selling face paint and face paint supplies. Last year, I even taught a class there and was in charge of the face painting jams. However, different people are running it this year, so I'm not sure if I will have that same priviledge agian. But never the less, I will still be attending and am always up for a spontaneous jam!

Re: Will there be any conventions in the midwest
Hmmm... I did recently get contacted by someone wanting to organize a Midwest Body Art Festival in June... but I haven't met with her yet. But... I didn't think she was from the painting community so I'm iffy on it still.
And, Shannon, I do mean this with the utmost respect and admiration: You are pure evil sometimes!

Shannon, you need to let loose baby!!! I know the Spring Fling Clown group in South Bend is on the 24th-26th of this month, but I can't go now bcause I lost my job, and won't be able to attend. That's the only one I know of..
Re: Will there be any conventions in the midwest
The Spring Fling is next weekend in South Bend, Indiana. It's primarily a get together for those members of the Clown Forum, but it's open to pretty much anyone who would like to go. I plan on at least dropping by for a visit, not sure what my school schedule will be like. For more information here's a link the the official thread regarding the fling on the Clown Forum:

Re: Will there be any conventions in the midwest
We have Clown Jam in Branson, MO. every summer. There are face painting contests and an all day painting class. We've had Marsela for the last two years. Some of my face painting friends in the area are talking about starting a guild.
Re: Will there be any conventions in the midwest
Pooh! Branson is close enough for me to play!!!! Too bad I didn't know this year.

Clown Jam will next be July 7-12, 2012 and they always have a face painting class and competitions.

Just wanted to revive this thread and let people know about the Spring Fling for 2012. I'll be going, along with some others from my area. All the information can be found at the official Spring Fling website here:

Re: Will there be any conventions in the midwest
I'm *pretty* sure that a lady named Hazel Ovanin will be the FP teacher. I haven't seen any of her work, but did see some pictures of a couple of designs she did for beginners. I was not impressed with those. However, there will be FP jams going on, probably every day. I'm looking forward to jamming with others whose skills I know are proven. It's really a somewhat relaxed event. There will be classes taught, of course, but a major part of the focus is on networking and sharing with other participants. Basically we can jam anytime we'd like to. I was hoping to collaborate with other FPers ahead of time and plan some designs that we'd like to share with one another. It would be great to see how other people work, different styles, techniques, etc. Can you tell I'm EXCITED??
It would be awesome if you could come!
