Hi my name is Paula, I have recently moved from Scotland to Canada, i've been doodling with face painting since I painted my daughter for halloween. Due to encouragement from friends i've started advertising and i've got 5 parties over the next 3 weekends....well now i'm FREAKING OUT! I'm second guessing myself and my work, worried i'm not good enough and worrying about people standing over me watching me paint. I would love some advice on how to get over nerves.

Here is a link to a facebook page with some photos of my work,
https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Paulas-Face-Painting-Designs/142727719115836

i'd love to hear what you guys think and how i can improve. I am REALLY stuck when it comes to butterflies, i just can't get the hang of them at all and sponging looks messy to me.

I've been practising alot on my daughter and my husbands back, so much that I need new paints, struggling to find a supplier in canada and paints take a long time to come from the states so any advise on that would be good.

looking forward to getting know everyone, looks like a fab site
xxx

Hi and Welcome Paula!
Just looked at your work and wow! you have been doing this for how long?
I'd say "Go for it" Your flowers are great and the cheek art too.

The only thing I would suggest is to practice the blending with a sponge, I double load mine (one color on each side of the sponge) and start with the lighter color first.

Lots of luck with the party!

Maggie

PS: you are so lucky your husband and daughter let you practice on them, my family runs away when they see me coming holding a brush hahahaha

Thank you, the problem i'm having with the sponges is how to load it, i've heard some wet the sponge and others spray the paint and i'm finding it goes on too wet or too dry and doesn't blend well, i've got all Diamond Fx brand paints. i can't find any online tutorials that show how to sponge, some make it look so easy

I rather spray the paint.
Do you cut your sponges? With the sponge cut in half, load the flat part of it with one color, you have to do it several times rubbing the paint with the sponge. Then get the other color you are going to use wet and load.

What size paint you have? if you have the little ones I find it harder. I like to cut my cakes in half and put 2 colors in the same container, then I swipe my sponge back and and get 2 colors at the same time.

Sorry i have no pictures to show.

Have you been watching youtube videos? I have found that really helpful to see someone loading and using the sponges.

Welcome to the group Paula. I looked at your facebook page and you have nothing to worry about. I've seen painters that have painted professionally for five years who didn't do work as nice as yours. Don't be so hard on yourself and go have some fun!
