Selling paste?
Someone just e-mail me and asked if I would be willing to sell them henna paste and "instructions" on how to apply it. I think they were concerned about the price I charge for a private appointment. My question is; has anyone else had this request and how did you respond. I am reluctant to sell my henna paste, and I know that if he has never used henna before he will most likely not be happy with the results. (I know I wasn't the first time I tried it) I would like your take on this situation.

Re: Selling paste?
I regularly buy made up paste from another dealer. I think it is innocent enough. Tell the guy he must PRACTICE for a while on something before using it on human skin.
Re: Selling paste?
Well see that's the thing. He wants to buy is specifically because he wants to do a particular design on himself (he not wanting to practiace, he just wants the design) I think I'm going to try to talk him into letting me do it, i would hate him to have a huge mess like I did the first time I tried henna. You think "how hard can it be?" the you end up with a blotchy brown hand and relize that it just doesn't work like that.

Re: Selling paste?
You can offer, but if he still insists, let him at it. Its just like when some people think face painting is super easy and think they can do a neon tiger in less then 5 min like that (insert snap of finger/thumb) the first time they pick up a brush. They will soon learn that "ohhhh...thats why you charge X per hour!". He will eventually get back to you if he gets tired of practicing.

If you don't want to sell him your product, don't. Refer him to a retailer of premade paste.

Re: Selling paste?
I've always been a bit skeptical about selling paste to what might be a competitor (usually at events). But it's taken me a while to realize that 9 out of 10 people won't be able to pick up a henna cone and make something attractive right off the bat. Not to mention knowing how long to leave the paste on, not washing, and all the 'etc' aftercare that comes along with it.
If it was me, I would sell him the cone. Let him make his mess and learn his lesson the hard way. He will may be back asking you to apply it.

Re: Selling paste?
I agree. There is nothing like trial and error to make you refer back to the real professionals (that being you) Someone told me you can go to any health-food store and find the stuff to make the paste. Tell him your special blend is a proprietary secret.
Re: Selling paste?
I sell cones at events all the time. I sell them for between $5 and $10 depending on the size of the cone (mine tend to be about an ounce of paste I think). Lots of artists sell kits with instructions for mixing the paste and sample designs. If he is unhappy with the results he gets perhaps next time he will pay for your time.
Re: Selling paste?
I agree with sending him to a retailer and there are plenty of online sites selling kits.....mixing and applying henna is TIME consuming....and takes practice, practice practice. I would not sell paste i can use in my business. I say dont sell unless you are offering a line of selling paste.
