Where to start?
So I'm intrigued by henna and have been seeing henna artists around at alot of different events this summer so I'd like to try it out. I've been looking around online and there is obviously a wealth of information out there, but it's all pretty overwhelming! Can anyone tell me the best way to go about getting a "starter kit" for me to play with and practice with? I've heard some people order pre-made henna paste from people, and some get the ingredients and make it themselves... any preferences for someone who is just starting out? I've also seen a ton of books, but again... I don't really know which is good to start off with. I'd even be willing to buy a "kit" from someone here if they wanted to put together the things I need to practice with. I'm not sure if this is something I want to offer my customers so I don't want to invest a ton of money into it before I practice and see if I'm even any good! Any insight would be appreciated.
Re: Where to start?
Michael's has a basic henna kit that is inexpensive($12-$15). This is what I learned with. I then got my supplies from Amerikan Body Art. I am by no means an expert in this area & would really consider myself a dabbler.

I do henna and highly recommend the henna school kit. It was what I started out with. It doesn't cost that much, you get cd's with how to's on it. The henna is much better quality than what you will get from Micheal's. It will work better as well as stain better, you'll be much happier with the results.
Happy Henna-ing!

Re: Where to start?
The henna school kit from mehndi.com is a great starter and comes with a WEALTH of info. I did some of the patterns for the kit and some other artists were also commissioned so it's a good variety. The hennapage.com also has tons of books for free and for sale for the beginning artist. Henna purchased from a craft store is rarely good and often times is full of preservatives and irritants. May as well go right to the source! For more 'light' learning, there are 'how to' vids and info at Henna Caravan along with great fresh kits that get you good to go. They also have some great henna pattern books for sale that are instantly downloadable! (Very handy!)
Good luck and happy hennaing!!
