I suck at butterflies!!!

Wow that's so pretty!! I'm going to it like that! I love butterfly s..I'd be happy painting them all day!

I might be a bit late to the game here but I wanted to share a superfast, super easy butterfly that I use all the time. It's great for young girls because there's hardly any little strokes that could be messed up by a quick turning head. Just sponge on a 1 or two colour base (triangle on and above the eye, quick little circle below) and away you go!

The upper black lines are done by drawing a long teardrop starting comparatively skinny from the inside corner of the eye (or eyebrow for paint shy young'uns) to nice and fat at the top of your sponged triangle.

Then you just lay your brush flat against the black line, pull down, then pull in and up as many times as you like until you get to the corner of the eye.

Add a swirl and three small tear drops to the corner of the eye and tah dah basic butterfly!

Finish up with a few white dots at the upper corner of the wing, and some starbursts if you have time

Here's an example, all Snazaroo paints, except for the white which is Diamond FX and my horrible Snazaroo pink glitter gel (didn't have any others at the time ).

These are my butterflies. I paint them a few years = 3 minutes / butterfly.
I like to change and mix colors. To not just only pink. What want paint most of the girls.
And make the outline not only black like other painter in Czech Rep.
With snazaroo and eulenspiegel colors and snazaroo glitters in gel.
On the disco to adult people with DFX and eulenspiegel UV colors.

I hope to learn as you paint butterflies with rainbow cake. But so far it's complicated. I have a little cups Eulenspiegel. Not suitable for painting with a sponge.

Seriously, you could just throw a couple of muddy sponge marks on your face and it's still going to come out gorgeous! That being said, your work is unbelievable.

Jody, so is yours- those "O-fly's" are one strokes with a 3/4 flat?

It's party time tonight and I have no clue what color or type of butterfly I'm going to paint on my face.

So many beautiful butterflies! I finally paint a butterfly that I love, and best of all it's easy and fast! I use my split cakes. Sponge on the eye first, pinch the sponge for the inner corner of eyes, then use a flat brush for the outer part of the butterfly, leading with white. Hope that makes sense.

Love those, I just don't have that control with me sponge work. So neat and clean! Is that Havana sunset on the first bfly?

For the first butterfly I used my own split made of Snaz yellow and orange, DFX Metallic Pink, and TAG Light Blue, in that order. The white is DFX. The white is the end part of the split next to the light blue. I use the white and light blue for the outer part of the butterfly.

Nothing special but different combo colors.

OMG I suck at butterflies too! I have tried and tried, but one good one out of 10 (in my opinion) sucks. The kids seem ok with the designs, but I am never happy. I feel I don't have the right brushes, but "a bad workman always blames his tools" keeps coming to my head!

I wore this last weekend. I was in a hurry and wish I had switched my brush to a larger size for my dots. Hubby was leaving and I really didn't want to load my FatMax by myself

mind if I ask what color/ split that is...I'm seeing burgundy and purple on edge.

The top is TAG not sure what color it is called. It's similar to Juicy Fruit. The bottom is a mixture of Kryolan(no split). I edged it with TAG wine and then black and white. I need to find a good shimmery purple that matches my old DFX metallic purple for line work

CottonKandy the glitter you use , is it loose or a gel?

It's Mama Clown glitter. I like the thick cut the best, but I use both for different effects

Witney, how is that effect on the edges done? I assume a light and drk blue split cake with some size flat brush, then do you dry brush in? Lots of fine lines? I've seen that effect a lot but I still can't figure it out. Thank you in advance.
