A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
I don't want this to be misconstrued as anything self-promotional, But I need to inform some of you of a problem. I know that quite a few of you have either ordered stencils from me outright or have requested samples in the past couple of weeks. I appreciate your interest in this new enterprise. But I have discovered within the past 48 hours that there's a BIG problem with the stencils I have sent out. And I need to correct that problem immediately.
I have been puzzled by a few reviews and reports from people who have had trouble getting the clear transfer tape to let go of the stencil once the stencil is on the skin. As I have stated on my website, I experimented with a lot of different materials in the past couple of years to determine that best combination of vinyl and tape. As I hadn't had the kinds of problems that were being described, I was quite disturbed that people were having any trouble. Then, last night, I discovered the source of the problem, and it wasn't something that anyone involved (except the tape manufacturer) was responsible for: the transfer tape I was applying was the wrong stuff. BUT . . . it SAID it was the right stuff! The cardboard tube inside of the roll was properly labeled, but nonetheless the tape on the roll wasn't what it said it was. (Keep in mind that these rolls are 100 yards long and 15 inches wide, so I can get many thousands of stencils off a single roll, so I had been using it for quite a while.) After testing this suspect roll against an old partial roll of the good stuff, and talking to both my local supplier and the manufacturer, we figured out that somehow the wrong product was wound onto the roll I had been sold. The hard part is that the look and feel of this tape doesn't vary between the degrees of "tack", so I had no idea that anything was amiss because I hadn't personally used any of the stencils yet this year. The manufacturer offered to replace the entire roll, and I was ready to say okay, but then . . . something else marvelous happened.
In the midst of my visit to the local supplier this morning, he suggested that I try out a new transfer tape that he had just started stocking. He allowed me to cut some sample stencils on his equipment and try this tape alongside the "good stuff" I had been using before. HOLY MACKEREL! The combination of this new tape with the vinyl I'm using was phenomenal! The stencil stuck to the skin as expected, but the new tape rolled off the stencil like butter! Even little thin pieces just laid there like they should. After having done thousands of tattoos myself, and knowing how the process "feels" in my hands, my first reaction was "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE, WONDERFUL NEW TAPE?"
It's a good bit more expensive, but I don't care. It's what I want to use personally, and it's what I'm going to use on the stencils I sell from now on. So, for all of you who have asked for samples, please allow me to send you some more with this new tape. I know you'll be delighted. If you have ordered stencils from me, and you're having a struggle with them, I will replace them, no charge. (I know that even though there is a problem, under good circumstances they'll still work. It's up to you.) Get back to me ASAP and I'll make things right.
Thanks again for your patronage. I want you all to be happy!

I don't use stencils cause I don't tat... But I find this amazingly wonderful!
Maker hears there's a problem, researches it (what are the odds that the wrong tape would be on the proper cardboard roll?), and better than corrects it.
Yay forum!

I haven't ordered from you(yet) but find your honesty & wish to have the best product impressive! Thank you!
Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
Mark, thanks for letting us know. After finding out that i got a "bad" batch, I still used some at the festival yesterday like you said. My poor cousing had a tough time applying them, but luckily(? well not lucky in $$ ways) there was never a huge line, so she was able to take her time applying them. Can't wait for the corrected order to come in to really experience your tatts! Love my team jacob tattoo:
Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
Yeah, I was eyeballing the Jacob and Edward tats.
Did you get a lot of requests for them?

Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
From my friends and family, lol...there weren't a lot of teens there more children wanting face paintings, but i think my memorial day weekend will be better, PLUS its great promotion for teen parties $$$
Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
My 11 year old was oooing and ahhhing over them. She said she'd have to get them both because she wouldn't be able to decide between the two of them.

Question?
That Team Jacob Tat looks really good! Do you apply glitter while the stencil is in place or did you remove the stencil as soon as you laid the glue then apply your glitter. I am hearing people do it both ways...I keep finding the glue pulls away with the stencil, messing up the design...
Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
Let me just say, from a teenage stand point, that sadly, twilight is dying amoung people over 10, and more people make fun of it now more than anything. just throwing that out there
Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
LOL! My kids never fell for the Twilight crazy. They thought sparkley vampires were kinda weird.
Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
Well, where I am, Twilight won't die. I've been trying to kill it for weeks...trust me...
I do like the stencil thought, my daughter brow beat me into getting them and I'm glad that I bent to her will! I have a pool party in June and I believe they will be a hit...especially since the new movie is coming out June 30th...gotta be prepared for the insanity. I wonder if I could get a license to camp outside of the movie theater? lol

Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
So . . . does this mean anyone is interested in my extra-special, but extra-complicated stencil for the Twilight Wolf Pack shoulder tattoo? That I charge $12 for and no one complains? I wonder . . .
Oh, that means the FINISHED tattoo, not the stencil. Pretty spectacular in black mica.

Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
So apparently there was a Twilight CONVENTION here in Vancouver this past weekend...HA!
The "craze" drives me mad, but I will say that I wish I'd known about the convention sooner - I would have been down for going and targeting teens! They had "vampire" makeup going on - it just looked like bad eyeliner and powder, lol.

Twilight books: Still on the NYT Bestseller list.
Twilight Graphic Novel : #1 on the NYT list this week.
"New Moon" film: #3 all-time box-office opening weekend.
"New Moon" DVD: Record for 4 million units in the first 24 hours.
Twilight merchandise: #5 last year, after Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Star Wars, and Michael Jackson.
Three more films in the pipeline, including "Eclipse" on June 30.
Dead? Me thinkest not.
But yeah, I'll still make fun of it at any point.

I think the demographic is changing to include moms. I see more of them into it than the kids. The funniest think was seeing the guitar teacher(a 20ish guy) where my daughter takes voice trying to secretly read the books. LOL!
Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
For it to have been a pretty decent book series, it really is too bad they didn't do a better job with the movies they have put out so far.
Maybe since the first two have been such a joke, they will do better with the others.

Re: A Preemptive Strike and An Apology Concerning Tattoo Stencils
Ok, All i know is that my sister (who is 32 but looks and acts like 23) is in love with Twilight and all her friends (well ok and mine ages 22-33) and my cousins LOVE the guys, lol.
I applied the glue, took OFF the stencil, waited till the glue was mostly transparent and applied the glitter. Thats what I normally due.

The 30 somethings who drool over the post-pubescent actors and spend money on the merchandise are keeping it alive and well...

LOL suzy!
Last weekend when my husband and I went to see Iron man 2, there was a Eclipse trailer. Let's just say the two ladies in the seats next to us were gasping and squealing out loud.
Don't think it's done yet.
