Using starblend mehron powders

what are they primarily used for? Would you consider using them instead of paints?

They are a base product (not for line work). They are a pancake makeup that can be used either wet or dry. But, once you use them wet, it is difficult to use them dry again.

okay so I can use them in stead of paint but not for outlining, thanks. I think this will be my preference, however hadn't found many tutorials on usage...

When wet, you use them the same way you would any base makeup.....apply with a sponge. When dry, you can apply them with a smoothie blender (big eyeshadow brush) or with a sponge.

I use the powders & love them. They make a great base & then use your favorite paint(DFX or Wolfe for me) to do your line work. They feel very good on the skin & are very light weight. They hold up well in hot humid climates.

Together the white and black make a killer of a zombee!

Newbie here and tried to used these as regular make up BIG mistake but at least I found out before my first big gig,whew. i can't get them to work with anything but a sponge.the yellow I bought will not go on a brush at all, any water I put on the the cake or brush just beads up. They are a great base just do not work for any detail work and they dry so fast I can't blend them. Again I'm a newbie and it could just be me. I made the mistake of buying them at a local costume shop(I love the people who work there) that sells mainly to clowns it was my mistake totally as I am new and thought they were regular paradise face painting paints,ooppss so now I have to purchase more paints. Oh well I will use them mostly for full face bases that don't require heavy blending...hope a bunch of kids want spiderman ,lol

Love them, but I keep them dry! Prefer the black, white, and red. Only problem... I have had TWO break on me. Impossible to keep when that happens... turns into a very messy loose powder

I love my starblends! Kids don't "flinch" when I apply this paint first with a smoothy blender or foam applicator. I use the orange and white for a tiger, the pink and purple for the bases on flowery designs, the blue for a base for Avatar, pastel kitty gets a base of either purple or pink, i use the white and red for spiderman, the black and the white for a skeleton, blue for laying down a base for dolphins, whew, then I use white or black Diamond FX for the line work.

i guess I'm going to have to give them another go. I bought them when I first started to put my kit together and expected them to act as regular facepaint. No sense to waste the money if they work in a different way..i'm willing to give them another go! i'll let you know how i like them

Definitely worth a try since you already have them. I do keep mine separate from the other regular paints in their own palette and take the lids off but keep a thin sheet of plexiglass plastic lying over the top of that palette case so I don't accidentally get any water on them when I spritz my other paints. You can still "see" the pretty colors but it protects them from getting wet without me having to remove the lids each time I want to use one. I have plenty of foam applicators I use for only those paints. Using a good large foam applicator makes a big difference also.

I totally agree.
I had to toss my black because it fell and became a crubmly mess. Sad thing was I only had it for 2 days!.. that was a complete waste of $

why is the white translucent I can't get anything but a light dusty look...UGGGHH

I just got my starblends yesterday and haven't gotten anywhere close to figuring out how to use them. The white is extremely translucent. I bought those compact makeup pads to help put it on and I got the dabbers from Sillyfarm.

Are there any tricks anyone has figured out that can help get a more opaque even finish with these? Help!

For Anyone else... Do NOT throw out broken starblends or starblends that got wet!!!!! You can EASILY fix them-- Yes, even if they got wet! Just let them dry out ( so they are not wet to the touch) and follow these instructions!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIC8qdSbDnw

I also love the starblends, but only dry. I think that is the true benefit that they offer. Does anyone have any cleaning tips for between faces? I live in Alberta and we have to soak brushes in alcohol for at least 2 minutes between kids. Obviously not possible with the smoothy blenders. Currently I bang out the excess on a towel and lightly most them with an alcohol spray.

I use a single lollipop blender per kid.
Big pro for the lollipops is they are cheap, and you can machine-wash them.

When I was a newbie I tried Starblend and hated it. I got it wet and it was horrible. I sold it, but then a few years later I bought another one. I didn't get it wet and I loved it! Don't give up on it--keep trying.

I love it for boy base colors. Spiderman is super fast and skulls are easy!

I've read that if you break your starblend up into a powder again and reset it (push it back into the form) it will make it more opaque!
