Teardrops dilemma Empty Teardrops dilemma

Post by mrskelly Thu Jan 21, 2016 11:31 pm

So I have spent a lot of time in the last six months practicing my lines and teardrops. I suddenly came to the conclusion that I can only do them backwards? As in tail first then to a round finish. I can't seem to do it the other way because I end up with a pointy end not a round one.... Does anyone have any solutions, similar experiences etc? Im also wondering if its my brushes.

I actually learnt ik that way during face painting class; tail first than the finish! I m now also having issues with doing it the "right" way.

as little monsters mentioned, brush size will affect it. a fatter round brush with a good point helps.

plop the brush down in one place so the fatter portion makes a rounder beginning, then lift up as you drag it, to get the pointy tail.

things that could make the beginning of the teardrop pointy are not pressing the brush down enough or dragging it too soon.

i think both ways are right, in fact, although i do teardrops front ways, i like the effect of the backward method.

These are such good things to here, and LittleMonsters I was thinking that my brushes were too skinny and pointed. I have been looking for a true round brush but they are a bit harder to come by were I live. Regional Australia does make it somewhat harder to get what I need. I will look a bit harder for a 'fatter' brush

What's wrong with doing them tail first? I've seen many pros do it that way. As long as they are where you want them and look how you want them to look, who cares?
Have fun!

I do them either way depending on the design. I don't think either is right or wrong and both have benefits.

As a matter of fact, Marcela (Mama Clown) teaches a class on FABA tv that deals solely with teardrops. She encourages you to practice doing teardrops both ways. I am able to do both ways (with practice, of course)....
