Loading a sponge

I have seen a great tutorial about hoe to load a brush with one-stroke facepaint.

Is there also an tutorial about how to load a sponge For Lets say a rainbowcake?

I keep having trouble with it. Or it is to dry or it is way to wet.

I’m with you on this one. I have been facepainting for 2 yrs now and have yet to use a sponge. I have some great blender cakes I’d like to use though, so I want to finally learn. I feel like I’m pressing too hard to get the paint transferred.

After watching Lynne Jamieson (and others) start with a full wet sponge and squeeze with a towel and THEN load I started spraying my sponges much more and the cake not so much. It helps the sponge release the paint better when it's got a little water pushing the paint out. I just spray the sponge and rub with my thumb until the water is inside, then I spray the cake and load. It seems to help make the load last through a full butterfly without losing it. And if you load it well, you can lightly mist it (not wet it) and get a little more out of it to finish a design.

Use an atomizer!! That's the best way. Spray the cake and the sponge, rub back and forth. I usually do 2-3 sprays if the cake is bone dry.

BEST sponges EVAR. You can also cut them in half (that's what i do) to have half moons, and they are PERFECT.

O thanks! I can get them in the netherlands so that is better For me. Because shippingcosts are huge

I do like Denise does. I spray the sponge and squeeze it a bit to get the water into the sponge. I never spray the cake, because I find that the colors get too muddy. But, like everything, it takes practice to find the right amount of water. Too much and it will be washed out and drippy/ not enough, and it will be blotchy and faint. Practice, practice, practice!

Thanks. I will. I’m a perfectionist so I don’t like doing things (on the public) until I have it perfected but really just need to spend more time practicing on myself. I definitely know once I have it down, I will be buying even more cakes as they are so beautiful when done right.
