rainbow cakes show and tell
I just got a critter cake (and a bunch of others from the forum shop!) but I would like some ideas on how to use them! Can you show me some pictures of (quick and easy) designs you paint using the rainbow cakes? I guess I will start with whats becoming my old standbys! ( a mask/butterfly/tiger) but I'd like more ideas! TIA if anyone can help!

This is just a simple design that I copied from someone else...don't remember who it was, though. It's been very popular with the teens.

Re: rainbow cakes show and tell
I adore rainbow cake colors and on the rainbow & split cakes Forum Topic, you will see the evolution of my pallet colors & size to create more colorful faces. I began with the regular colors of the rainbow I cut & put into an empty cake container.
Then I flipped the sponge to get more variety
But,
I felt the red was too harsh next to the eye, so I changed it to softer sheer metalic gold, sparkling yellow, pink, red with electic purple & blue as my preferred choice of colors.
Then I began cutting up colors for better combinations. The red and pink look like solid colors but they are split with the top half of each being sparkling red & pink ; ) The Lower right well contains sparkling and metalic green which is great for dragon designs. The lower left is my tiger colors, gold, sparkling orange & metalic copper so with one sweep of my sponge the tiger colors are on, which is a great timesaver! My pallets are all Snazaroo colors.
Yup, I Love Rainbow & Split Cakes, too!

Here are just some of the things you can do with rainbow cakes & a flat brush.
The flower in this on is done with a rainbowcake.

Oooh, totally love the metallic rainbow. Did you sponge it or use a paintbrush?
Re: rainbow cakes show and tell
Sponged on. I am gonna try and post a better pic with the 2 cakes side by side so you can really see the difference. The metallic cake is really so much more vibrant.
Try to get it up befor I go to bed
OK here it is the side by side of the metallic rainbow and the standard rainbow
both sponged on the met. with a large maxi mop and the regular with a standard 1/2 circle sponge

I've seen tripleloading mentioned some times now, but what does it actually mean - how do you do it and what effect does it give?
Re: rainbow cakes show and tell
I think triple-load just means loading three colors on the sponge or brush at once, right?
Re: rainbow cakes show and tell
Yes, triple loading is swiping the sponge in 3 different colors. I swipe 1 end, then the middle & then the other end. It makes for quick butterflies.
